Bronson council members missed an opportunity to expand the town's park Monday night when they voted 3-2 against purchasing about 14 acres of adjacent and nearby property. About 11 acres owned by Virginia B. Allen adjacent to the park was being offered to the town for about $51,000, according to an e-mail sent to the town from Libby Barr, a representative of the families wanting to sell the property. The e-mail also states that Allen was willing to finance part of the balance at 6 percent interest for four years.
In addition, about 3 acres of nearby property, owned by William C. and Dogan S. Cobb, was being offered for about $11,000.
"We still have a lot of stuff to do at the park on the land we already have," said Vice Mayor Franklin Schuler, one of three council members to vote against the purchase that would have about doubled the park's size.
Council member Jason Kennedy, voting in favor of the purchase, said he thought the property, because of its location, would be an asset to the town.
"I think it's a fair price, and I think it's fair financing terms," Kennedy said.
