Bronson set to get mapped

The Bronson Town Council voted unanimously Monday night to accept a proposal from the Southwest Florida Water Management District to map land elevations of the town and surrounding property.

Ekaterina Fitos, a GIS mapping specialist with SWFWMD, told council members the map would be created from data gathered by an airplane that uses a beam of laser light to measure distances, a technique known as LiDAR, or Light Detection and Ranging, mapping.

“If we don’t get this we’re going blind,” Council Member Berlon Weeks said.

Bronson has never had a topographic map made, he said.  The information would help the council in working with developers and would make it easier to get future grants.

“It’s very valuable data. We have to pay for it, but it’s worth it,” he said.
