Bronson Town Council members were split monday night on a decision to host early voting hours for the town's upcoming September elections.

Mayor Franklin Schuler cast the deciding vote against early voting, which was supported by Vice Mayor Berlon Weeks and Council Member Jason Kennedy.

"I think it would be a good way to lead the county," Kennedy said early in the discussion, referring to the fact that Bronson would have been the first municipality in the county to offer early voting for municipal office.

Weeks agreed, adding that it might help improve people's ability to come in and vote, and that it was worth the extra $800 or so it would cost to staff the early voting.

Council Member Beatrice Roberts said absentee voting is also an option for those who can't make it in on election day.

Town Clerk Kelli Brettel said Levy County Supervisor of Elections Tammy Jones told her that many people don't like absentee voting because they don't "know if their vote counted."
