Leisa A. Thomas, 46, of Bronson, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a report filed by crash investigator Trooper K. Spence

“A Chrysler SUV was traveling east in the right lane of US 27 in Bronson. A pedestrian was attempting to cross the road. The pedestrian ran into the path of the SUV. The pedestrian was struck by the SUV and pronounced deceased at the scene,” the report stated.

This is at least the second traffic death in Levy County in July.

According to a report issued by the Florida Highway Patrol, Bruce Wayne Roque, 60, of Chiefland, was killed July 9 in a single-car crash.

Roque was driving a 1997 GMC 1500 pickup northeast on County Road 347.

The vehicle drifted off the paved portion of the roadway with the right side. Roque attempted to correct himself by turning to the left. As the vehicle re-entered the roadway, he oversteered to the right, causing the vehicle to rotate in a clockwise direction before leaving the roadway, overturning and coming to rest on its roof.

Roque was not wearing his seat belt and was ejected.

He was pronounced dead on-scene by Levy County Fire Rescue.
