Council wants to complete sewer project, school board wants football field

By Mark Scohier, Staff writer

Bronson Town Council members protested Monday night a letter sent to them from Levy County Schools Superintendent Bob Hastings regarding federal money allocated for shared sewer projects between the school board and the Town of Bronson.
"They already signed that money and gave it to us," Council Member Berlon Weeks said. "They don't want to give the $29,000, and they want the $33,000 back."
On Nov. 10, the council sent a letter to the school board asking that they hold true to an interlocal agreement signed in 2008 that specified the school board would use federal funds it received to help pay for the expansion of Bronson's wastewater treatment facility. The letter asked that the board allocate about $29,000 for an upcoming portion of the project.
Within the last year or so, the board also allocated about $33,000 for Bronson to pay for a pipeline extension and an airplane survey of the town's topography, both of which the council says were important components of the overall expansion project.
