BELL — Chiefland High School’s volleyball team found a sudden spark in its third game against P.K. Yonge on Tuesday night, making a district powerhouse look not just mortal, but vulnerable.

But it was too little, too late as the Blue Wave swept the Indians, 25-10, 25-5, 25-19, knocking them out of the District 2A-5 Tournament.

The Indians came into this semifinal match knowing they were facing a titan in the sport. The Blue Wave were undefeated in district play this season, and dominated the first two games, jumping to quick 11-2 and 16-3 leads in Games 1 and 2, respectively.

But something came together for Chiefland in the third game. Indians coach Tammy Arrington said that the sudden resurgence was typical for her squad this season.

“It’s like they’re down, and then in the blink of an eye they can change and come out and do something like this,” she said.

Chiefland fought for a quick 2-2 tie in Game 3, exchanging points and capitalizing on Blue Wave errors to bring the score to 5-5.
