The Chiefland baseball team opens the District 1A-7 tournament Monday, May 1, at 4 p.m. against Dixie County in Branford.

The winner plays Tuesday against Trenton.

The Bears and the defending champion Indians each finished 4-6 in district play and split their pair of regular season meetings, as CMHS avenged a 10-9 road loss in Cross City with a dominant 11-2 win at home over Dixie County on April 11.

“We’re going to have to win two games to get to the championship game,” CMHS coach Kyle Parnell said, “so pitching is going to be a concern – how we’re going to work them. You’ve got to win one to get to the next one, so we’re going to try to take care of that first.

“Hopefully, we can pitch well, play well, and not burn up all our pitchers in our first game.”

The late game Monday (7 p.m.) will see a meeting between No. 3 seed and tournament host Branford (5-5 in 1A-7) and No. 6 Bronson (0-10 in district). The victor advances to face No. 2 seed Bell (7-3 in 1A-7) on Tuesday.

The Tigers finished 10-0 in district play.

The district championship game will be played at 7 p.m. on Thursday May 4.
