Florida Attorney General Bill McCollum made a sweep through Levy County last Friday.

Among his goals was to reach out to youngsters and senior citizens, giving his backing to each group on how to fight crime.

During the early afternoon, McCollum gave a presentation to the kids at Chiefland Middle School on cyber safety.

Cyber crime can target all walks, but kids can be especially vulnerable. McCollum schooled kids on what to look for and stay away from.

Later in the afternoon, McCollum headed east to Bronson to show his support for the county's Seniors vs. Crime program.

He spoke at a press conference at the Levy County Sheriff's Office.

"Seniors vs. Crime is a great program," McCollum told the gathering. "I inherited it, but it's been a real asset in fighting crime against seniors. There are now 30 programs in the state."

And Levy County has its own chapter operating out of the Sheriff's Office.

Actually, it's been there a year already.

Steve Renico, deputy director of Region 4 of Seniors vs. Crime, said that a giant city like Tampa only has two chapters.
