It's not every day you have Charles Bronson come to your town.

No, we're not talking about the steely-eyed, tough-guy actor. He died in 2003.

We're talking about Florida's Commissioner of Agriculture, who visited Chiefland last Thursday, May 22, as a treat to the Middle School's FFA for winning the statewide "Plate for a Plate" competition.

The month-long contest spanning April encompassed selling the new Florida specialty license plate featuring the FFA logo. The FFA club selling the highest ratio of "ag tags" per member would win a visit from Bronson along with a "Fresh From Florida" lunch prepared by Florida culinary ambassador Justin Timineri.

Chiefland Middle's FFA sold the highest percentage of plates per student - 56 out of 120 - to win the visit from the Florida Department of Agriculture contingent.

Last Thursday was the day.

Bronson, who has been the Commissioner of Agriculture for seven years, first talked to the FFA sixth, seventh and eighth graders at the Chiefland Ag Building.
