    His smile is pleasant, his manner gentle. At first look, would the casual observer know that Stephen Davis is a drive killer?

    Davis, a senior at Chiefland High School, is winding down his senior basketball season, following a senior football season in which he was named Second Team All-State at the defensive back position.

  • Devils sleep late, come back on...

    Williston boys played the Rope-A-Dope for three quarters Friday night, waiting until the bell rang on the fourth quarter to explode to a 56-39 win over Chiefland. The Indians played one of their best games of the season for the first 24 minutes, owning the lane at both ends and waxing the glass. Williston challenged somewhat in the third quarter, momentarily taking a lead up to four points, but Chiefland never let the Devils stray far.

  • Davis, Hall named All-State for...

    Chiefland's Stephen Davis and Chance Hall received All-State honors. Davis was named All-State Second Team for defensive back and Hall received Honorable Mention notice for offensive line.

    Congratulations Stephen and Chance! Your play made the difference in Chiefland's season.

  • Bronson boys' senior night...

    Bronson boys will host Seven Rivers Christian for Senior Night tonight (Friday) at 7:30. This is the last regular season game for the Eagles as they head into district tournaments next week. After last week's loss to Bell, Bronson Head Coach Aaron Haldeman believed the Eagles had fallen to the fourth district seed, leaving them with a brutal matchup against Hawthorne, which is unbeaten in the district. Bell looked to have the third seed and a date with a more vulnerable Oak Hall team.

  • Indians thrash Tigers, get ready...

    After a painful home loss to Bronson, Chiefland boys were ecstatic to get back to pounding Trenton 61-28 Thursday night for Senior Night. The rebuilding Tigers were again without big man Trevor Pelphrey, leaving do-it-all senior C.J. Bowers to, well, do it all. The Indians keyed on Bowers and held him to six points on the night. Julian Langley stepped up for Trenton with a team-high nine points.

    “I understand Trenton is in a rebuilding process,” said Chiefland Head Coach Mark Lundy.

    Chiefland hosts Class 3A District 5 tournament. Games start Tuesday, Feb. 10, as follows:

    Tues: 5:30 Newberry v Ft White

    7 p.m. Chiefland v Dixie County

    Friday 5:30 winner of Newberry-Ft. White v P.K. Yonge

    7 p.m. winner of Chiefland-Dixie County v Williston

    Saturday 7 p.m. Championship
