The Bronson Eagles learned how to succeed this year, posting a record breaking season of four wins, said new head coach Al Cooksey.  The season was also a milestone for the coach.  The Eagles’ win two weeks ago marked Cooksey’s 100th career victory.

“We’ve come a long way," Cooksey said Friday on Senior Night after a loss to Bell 40-12.  “You all set a standard we can grow by,” he told his team.

"We just got after them real good," said Chiefland head coach Ajay Ulmer."

"Our defense didn't allow them an inch."

The Indians ran away with a monster win Friday on the road at Hamilton County (Jasper), downing the Trojans 43-6.

"We were up 28-6 at halftime - they only scored once," Ulmer said.

Apart from that tiny bite, the Indians got the lions' share of the meal, with Slaughter the founder of the feast.

"We scored on our first three series," Ulmer said, "and defensively, we allowed only 54 yards of total offense."

Friday's 90-minute lightning delay of the preseason matchup between Chiefland and Bronson was, in the end, little more than a dream deferred for the Indians. After 45 minutes of celestial displays, followed by 45 minutes of pelting rain, the teams were finally released to the misty turf, rewarding the patience of their dedicated fans.

Chiefland won, bursting back onto the field to grab an immediate score on their way to a 46-6 victory over the cross-county Eagles.

Seven teams will be vying for the Babe Ruth 13-15 year-old State Championship in Tallahassee July 17-20.

The tournament will be played at Godby High.

Kyle Parnell's Chiefland All Stars will be one of those teams off of an impressive performance in the District 6 Tournament a couple of weeks ago.

Other teams competing include Mandarin, Green Cove Springs, Fort Caroline, Lake City, Wakulla and host Tallahassee.
