  • Parker, Owens among winners at...

    A full evening of racing at the Bronson Motor Speedway on June 16 saw six winners in six different racing divisions. Wade Parker and Chip Owens put on some of the most impressive performances of the night, winning their respective races by nearly a lap apiece.
    Race 1:  In his first career win, Paul White of Eustis directed the No. 25 car to a win by less than a car length over Mark Lands in the pro challenge race. Running third at the start of the race, White flew past Lands and polesitter Kevyn Terry of Citra to take the lead.

  • Group kayak and picnic

       The Friends of the Lower Suwannee & Cedar Keys National Wildlife Refuges will hold a Group Paddle and Picnic in Cedar Key. All are welcome. Bring your own kayak or rent one in town. Bring a lunch and we will gather after the paddle at the Cedar Key Park to eat together.

  • FWC supports ‘Operation Dry...

    Last year, nine people died from boating accidents related to alcohol and drug use in Florida. That represents 13 percent of the state’s fatalities for 2011.
    “Alcohol- and drug-related boating accidents are preventable,” said Capt. Tom Shipp, of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission’s (FWC) Boating and Waterways Section. “Even one death is too many.”

  • CAAA Rookie All-Stars earn trip...

    The Chiefland Area Athletic Association's Rookie All-Star baseball team placed second in the Rookie State Qualifer held in Lake City June 9-11. They now the the privilege of representing the Chiefland area at the State of Florida Rookie Tournament in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., beginning June 28. The Rookie All-Star team will host a cake auction on Mon., June 25 at 7 p.m. at the Days Inn conference room in Chiefland to help raise funds to assist with travel expenses.     Chiefland’s all-time leader in pretty much everything but pitching statistics. The All-American catcher batted .778 slugged 1.926, had a .871 on-base percentage, scored 52 runs, knocked in 33 runs and was a perfect 24 out of 24 on steal attempts her senior year.

  • Athlete of the Year: Taylore...

    The 2012 district 1A-7 semi-final softball game provided the signature moment for one of the best players in county history.
     At times it looked like the top-seeded Union County Tigers would blow out the home team Indians. But Chiefland, a squad fresh off a roller coaster regular season and a record hovering around .500, had hung tight with of the best squads in the area.
