  • CHS volleyball sweeps Baldwin

    Though not the team’s sharpest, or most exciting effort of the season, the Chiefland High School varsity volleyball team defeated district rival Baldwin 3-0 (25-14), (25-20), (25-10) in the two teams’ game Sept. 18.

  • Indians fall in Lake Butler

    Unable to overcome a late touchdown, the Chiefland High School varsity football team fell 12-6 to Union County in the teams' game in Lake Butler Friday night. 

    Chandler Mann threw a 22-yard touchdown pass to Dylan Clark with less than four mintues left in the game, giving the Tigers (4-0, 1-0 District 1A-7) a 12-6 lead. Chiefland (3-1, 0-1) went 4-out on its ensuing possesion, giving the ball back to Union County, which ran out the clock to end the game.

  • Fair president gives updates on...

    A last-minute change in work crews ended up expediting the construction of the new Suwanee River Fair Grounds.  
    Local prison crews helped clean out all valuables at the existing facilities early last week. That left no need for the Saturday morning work day for area volunteers called by the Fair board.
    “We appreciate people coming out because they would be here if we needed them,” said Fair president Loran Brookins. “We’d rather have the prisoners do it,”

  • Indians throttle Blue Wave 48-0

    Continuing the momentum from a physical win in the season opener, the Chiefland High School varsity football team manhandled P.K. Yonge in a 48-0 home win Friday night. 

    Chiefland (2-0) accounted for 470 total yards of offense while allowing 29 yards to P.K. Yonge (0-2). Chiefland scored on all but one possession.

  • CAAA Turkey Shoot on Saturday

     The Chiefland Area Athletic Association will host a turkey shoot from 9 a.m. till 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 18, at Strickland Park in Chiefland. The family event will offer prizes, food, drink and T-shirts. The Deer Camp Expo will also be on-hand, offering bow adjustments, bow supplies, bow maintenance and helpful tips and pointers. The event supports the CAAA.

    Volunteers can register for the Great Suwannee River Cleanup, choosing a section on either the Santa Fe or the Suwannee this year.

       Current Problems, Inc., which organizes the cleanup, is hoping for another great turnout for this important event.
