    Bronson Blue Springs has lost its sparkle.

    Severe drought, according to Suwannee River Water Management District Engineer Meagan Wetherington, has caused the spring to quit flowing. And recent rains, though not enough to recharge the aquifer, have caused water from nearby swamps, heavy with tannins, to flow into the spring, staining it muddy brown.

  • UF to study Levy sea rise

    Researchers at the University of Florida say they want community input from residents of Levy County on the threat of rising seas.
    Last month, according to UF Department of Urban and Regional Planning professor Dr. Kathryn Frank, UF began a two-year project aimed at helping the county cope with the inevitability of rising seas due to climate change.
    ‘We’re still in the information gathering process,” Frank said about the project, which is funded by a Florida Sea Grant

  • Jarret Johnson Signs with...

    Chiefland High School graduate and former Baltimore Ravens linebacker Jarrett Johnson signed with the San Diego Chargers on March 14.  

    After a 10-year stint with the Ravens, Johnson heads over to San Diego as the newest member of one of the NFL’s top defensive units. 

    Johnson, born in Cedar Key,  is one of the most successful former CHS football players.

  • CHS Hangs Tough in Loss

    The Chiefland Indians baseball team fell to former division rival P.K. Yonge 4-0 Tuesday, remaining winless on the road this season and moving its overall record to 2-6.   

    P.K. Yonge (10-3), which this season moved up to Division 3A, coupled staunch pitching with two-run innings in the second and fourth to edge out Chiefland and increase its winning streak to eight games.

  • Chiefland moves up in regionals

    Behind a furious second-quarter run, the Cheifland High School boys basketball team ran away from Wildwood 54-42 in a game that wasn’t as close as the score indicated. 

    The Indian’s win in the regional semi-finals advances the team to the regional finals at Union County on Feb. 25. Two of Chiefland’s three losses this season have come to the Tigers. 

    “This is the one chance we get to give them a run for their money,” said Chiefland’s Josh Smith.
