  • Racing to be tobacco free

“Earnhardt” may have been a bigger name at the Bronson Speedway on June 30 but Tabaco Free Florida made a name for itself as well.
Aided by members of Levy County’s Students Working Against Tabacco (SWAT) club, representatives from Tabacco Free Florida helped spread the word for tabacco prevention and ways to quit using. They were further helped by Jeffery Earnhardt, grandson of Hall of Fame NASCAR driver Dale Earnhardt, who was racing at the speedway as part of a state-wide tour with his partner, Tabacco Free Florida.

  • Clint's for Certain

The Sprint Cup season is only five races old, but Clint Bowyer has gone a long way toward eliminating the uncertainty that clouded his career during the off-season.

Bowyer, 32, made his name at Richard Childress Racing, where he won five races since joining the Cup ranks full-time in 2006. Twice he won at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, in 2007 and 2010, and at Talladega Superspeedway, in 2010 and 2011. He also won at Richmond, in 2008.

  • Peet wins Bronson's first Figure 8 race

    Special to the Citizen

  • Fate turns on McMurray

What a difference a year makes.

A victory in the 2010 Brickyard 400 was quite an accomplishment in itself for Jamie McMurray. Except that he also won the Daytona 500, not to mention the Bank of America 500 at Charlotte.

Yet, in spite of victories in NASCAR's two most prestigious races, McMurray, 35, failed to make the Chase for the Sprint Cup. Though the Joplin, Mo., native has won six Sprint Cup races in his career, he has never finished a season in the top 10 of the point standings.

  • Reutimann up to speed (when it counts)

    By MONTE DUTTON

    King Features

Second place was almost a first, and who could blame David Reutimann for feeling that way after the inaugural Quaker State 400 at Kentucky Speedway on July 9?

Before roaring past five-time Sprint Cup champion Jimmie Johnson at the finish, Reutimann, who has two career Cup wins, had finished no better than ninth in 2011.
