  • Couple buys Bronson Speedway
    Special to the Citizen   The Bronson Speedway, formerly known as Bronson Motor Speedway, has been purchased by Young Unlimited Inc., and is scheduled to reopen next month after sitting silent for more than a year. The 3/8ths–mile high banked oval is looking to host various divisions of racing during the 2011 season, including a focus on INEX-sanctioned Legends Cars and possible Bandoleros.
  • Leonard wins CWGA tourney
    Special to the Citizen    The Chiefland Women's Golf Association finished its third and final round of the Championship Tournament on Feb. 9. The association began in 1974 and the champion that year was Orine Goan. The trophy plaque is hanging in the honor gallery at the Chiefland Golf and Country Club, which opened that year.

      A composite schedule of sporting events involving high school varsity teams from Levy County.   FEBRUARY 18— Baseball: Branford @ Chiefland, 7 p.m., Trinity Catholic @ Williston, 7 p.m.; Softball: Trenton @ Bronson, 7 p.m., Williston @ Suwannee, 7 p.m.

  • Chiefland Women’s Golf Association update - Oct. 14
    The Chiefland Women’s Golf Association had 25 ladies come out to play on Oct. 6. This is a record number of players for our group and several of our members have not yet arrived from up north. We played a game where you get to throw out your two worst hole scores, revert that score to “par” for the hole, then deduct your full handicap.
  • Chiefland Women's Golf Association update - Oct. 7
    On Sept. 29, the Chiefland Women's Golf Association had 19 ladies play, even though the forecast called for a big chance of rain. We were successful in completing a game where the players are placed into flights according to their like handicaps, and the winners are the ones who play well enough to subtract their handicaps from their total scores, thus giving them the lowest net scores.
  • Chiefland Women's Golf Association update
    On Sept. 22, the Chiefland Women's Golf Association played a game called "T's and F's", where only the nine holes starting with these initials count, minus one half the golfer’s  handicap. The association had 17 ladies enjoying the slightly cooler weather along with the competition and great exercise.
  • Chiefland’s Women’s Golf Association returns
     On Sept. 8, our group was host to players from seven courses to play in our "Gator Golf" competition.  The University of Florida sent seven players. Quail Heights sent seven. Williston Golf Course sent two, and Haile Plantation sent two, Gainesville Country Club had two players, and Lake City Country Club sent four players. Chiefland Golf Association had 18 of our own ladies competing.
