   Author and historian Carolyn Cohens, a self-taught artist from Chiefland, will be part of a show "Variations on a Dream: Black History, Liberation & Spirituality" celebrating African-American History Month at Bellamy Road in Melrose through March 4.
   Cohens' artworks celebrate the folk-life of African-Americans in Levy County and the surrounding region. In three series of acrylic paintings she depicts turpentining, spirituality, and the lives of individuals who carry the rich cultural traditions of her community.

The Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s Cedar Key Scrub State Reserve and Cedar Key Museum State Park will host the National Stars-n-Parks Programs on Monday, Feb. 20, Wednesday, Feb. 22 and Friday, Feb. 24.

The 12th Annual STARS Gala, hosted by the Levy County Schools Foundation, will be held Saturday at Chiefland Elementary School, but this is much more than a gathering of the county's movers and shakers. The event's theme this year is Set Sail For Education: Port Levy,
The event raises money for students to go on field trips, for teachers to help classes take on educational projects and for high school graduates to attend college.

Levy County's public library director told the Chiefland Rotary Club that they should judge their libraries the way an investor would judge a business — by the return on the investment.
And when it comes to Levy County's five branches that return is a whopping $28 for every taxpayer dollar invested in the system. "I want you to know what my return on investment is," said Brasher.

Get your engines revving for a good cause as the first City of Williston Wings and Wheels fly-in and car show zips into town March 3 as a fund-raiser for the Levy Association of Retarded Citizens (LARC).
The day starts at the Williston Municipal Airport with a fly in. All pilots who want to show off their aircraft are encouraged to attend, said one of the event  organizers, Dennis Strow.

Cedar Key Arts Center is hosting an exhibit open to everyone in the community saluting wildlife and the Lower Suwannee and Cedar Keys Wildlife Refuges. Entries can be any medium and must be original works by the artist. Entries (limit three per artist) are to be delivered to the Arts Center by 5 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 28. Works will be displayed (and can be for sale) in the CKAC Gallery during the month of March.

The four hunters spaced themselves about 20 feet apart, in a straight line, poised at the edge of a wall of palmettos and gallberry. The leader of the group, pointing on a map, gave quick directions about his plan of attack: straight through, in a grid, a few hundred yards out, then reposition and come back, covering an adjacent swath of land.
