Retired educator Vivian Filer believes children should be raised with love, but also a firm grasp on whatis proper and what is not.
As the speaker for the Black History Scholarship Banquet in Chiefland on Feb. 18 at the Tommy Usher Community Center, she told the 80 people in attendance, that   having children calls for a commitment to invest long hours, go the extra mile, to sacrifice and "love, love, love."

 The Suwannee Valley Players are so pleased to be able to present its annual musical, Master of Time, which was written by a local writer, Krista Perryman. Not only is SVP honored to produce this play, it is privileged to have Perryman as the musical director and choreographer, while working closely with a SVP veteran director, Janice Grant. The large cast is made up of residents from all parts of our Tri-County area. SVP is proud of its accomplishments. 

   The Bronson FFA Alumni Organization's Annual Food Fest will be Friday, March 2, at First Baptist Church in Bronson, with entertainment beginning at 5 p.m. and food service at 5:30 p.m.
   There will also be a singing group from the local Cowboy Church, a cake auction, a silent auction and door prizes.
Tickets for the event may be purchased in advance for $10 or for $15 at the event. Proceeds go to the Bronson FFA Alumni Scholarship Program and to send local students to leadership conferences.

Warmer temperatures and lack of snow in parts of North America are setting the stage for what could be a most intriguing 15th annual Great Backyard Bird Count, coming up this weekend.
Bird watchers across the U.S. and Canada are getting ready to tally millions of birds in the annual count coordinated by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, Audubon, and Canadian partner Bird Studies Canada.

  AMVETS Post 88 is getting ready for another great running of the 35th Annual Wild Hog Canoe & Kayak Race on April 28. This is our 7th year hosting this wild and exciting canoe and kayak race. Two kayak classes have been added this year: women and seniors.

   The Friends of the Luther Callaway Public Library (FLCPL) Board of Directors, will hold its  monthly meeting at the Library, 104 NE 3rd Street, Chiefland (a block behind City Hall), at 11 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 9.

   The Genealogy and History Society of Levy County will meet on Sunday,
Feb. 12, at the Levy County Quilt Museum, 11050 NW 10th Avenue, Chiefland.
   Toni Collins, Levy County historian and author, will be the guest speaker, presenting a PowerPoint program on the history of some of the 82 known Levy County family, church, and community cemeteries. Collins also will give a brief history of the persons interred in the cemeteries that will be visited on the armchair tour.
