The Haven Alliance presented Haven Hospice with a check for $21,140 at their annual membership luncheon on May 5 at the E.T. York Hospice Care Center in Gainesville.
The Alliance raised the funds through membership dues and the 10th Annual Styles for Life Fashion Show. All funds benefit Haven’s unfunded programs and services such as Camp Safe Haven, a day camp for children and teens who are coping with the loss of a loved one.

The Log Cabin Quilters met Thursday, May 12, at the Levy County Quilt Museum. More fabric was brought in and also lots of pictures that have been taken through the months.  We have extra photos for those who want them.
Four ladies came out and had lunch with us. One had a quilt she wanted to have finished.  Lois took the job on.

Drummond Community Bank held its annual Easter Egg Hunt at Usher Park in Chiefland for its customers’ and employees’ families. Children were treated to a day of hunting for candy eggs and other activities as well as a grilled lunch. About 100-150 turned out for the annual event. This is the 19th year the bank has sponsored the event.

James Brown had to think hard about what he likes about working on the old Shell Pond School.
“It hasn’t hit me yet. It hasn’t jelled,” the 56-year-old carpenter said, gripping a handsaw and standing in front of a pile of salvaged timber. “That’s a tough question. It’s such a simple structure. What it can become, I guess. That’s what it’s about.”

  Sadness, anger, confusion — these are some of the feelings people experience when dealing with grief.  However, children, teens and adults do not grieve in the same way, so a different counseling approach is needed. 

   Nancy Reissner, acting director of the Malcom Randall Veterans Administration in Gainesville, awarded Dorothy J. Caldwell a certificate of appreciation. She has served 28 years and 26,000 hours to the hospitalized veterans at the Veteran’s Administration Hospital, in Gainesville, through their voluntary service program.

   On Saturday, April 16, the City of Fanning Springs hosted an Easter Egg Hunt for area residents at the Fort Fanning Historical Park. There was an excellent turnout and there were many happy youngsters in attendance. Sammy Green, Trinity Driggers, Livia Bennett, Elijah Langford, Allannah Sebra and Dustin Bennett were the winners of the bicycles that were prizes of the hunt.  Alex Moore and Savannah Emrich won stuffed bunnies.  Joann Hayes and Kenadee Langford won Easter baskets.  There were additional prizes awarded to other recipients.

He may not be your typical musician–he holds an undergraduate degree in psychology and a master’s degree in business–but Ocala’s Shane Wooten loves what he does and is working to promote not only himself–but his love of Florida, music and his causes.
The up-and-coming country musician is one of the scheduled headliners at this year’s Levy County Fair–slated to perform April 9.
The Shane Wooten Band performed at last year’s July 3 celebration and the experience left him wanting more.

 The Suwannee Valley Players production of "The Drowsy Chaperone," a musical within a comedy, has added a Sunday matinee performance in its final weekend at the Chief Theatre, 25 E. Park Avenue.
