 ST. PETERSBURG — Five people were rescued by the Coast Guard after the 32-foot boat they were aboard began taking on water 12 miles west of Cedar Key, Monday.

A member aboard the boat contacted Sector St. Petersburg watchstanders at 1:31 p.m., via VHF-FM channel 16 radio reporting they had lost an engine, were taking on water and in need of assistance.

CORRECTION: The following story in the June 13 issue of the Chiefland Citizen had the incorrect name of the judge in the Julian Howard jury trial and sentencing. Eighth Judicial Circuit Judge Mary Day Coker presided and pronounced the sentence. 

EARLIER STORY

Julian Howard, 33, of Archer, was sentenced to four years in prison and a year of probation after his release following a one-day jury trial where he was found guilty of possession of crack cocaine and cocaine. 

A series of public meetings have been scheduled in Levy County to explain funding that could benefit the county arising from the 2010 Deepwater Horizon explosion and resulting oil spill. 

Florida Farm Bureau President John Hoblick has announced that the statewide organization will lead a bold partnership to build a new headquarters for the Florida FFA Association, according to a press release from the Farm Bureau. The facility will be constructed on Florida Farm Bureau’s campus in Gainesville.
