Convict captured

UPDATE From Levy County Sheriff's Office:

Escaped Department of Corrections Inmate Frederick Pinckney was captured at approximately 0300 hours by the Department of Corrections K-9 team, LCSO and Chiefland Police Department. An alert citizen called 911 and reported seeing a suspicious person run into a wooded area in southeast Chiefland. The K-9 tracked Pinckney to a residence located at 107 SE 4 Ave and took him into custody. Pinckney was transported to the Levy County Jail and charged with escape.

State bound!

The CHS Indians celebrate their win over The Villages Friday, which earned them a trip to the state Final Four.

After Wednesday's 4-1 win over Bozeman from Panama City, the Indians will face neighbor Trenton at 4 p.m. Thursday for the 1A State Championship.

Three teens arrested in separate Crabfest incident

After reviewing videos and photographs taken at Williston’s Crabfest April 27, Levy County law enforcement agents discovered that at least one more incident occurred simultaneously with the shooting that left one man dead.

County approves upgrading animal shelter

It was a busy day at the Levy County Animal Shelter on Tuesday. Many of the pens held pups, kittens, cats and dogs up for adoption, and an animal officer was on his way in from Inglis with nine dogs while a resident walked in with two howling kitties.

SVP youth auditions this weekend

The Suwannee Valley Players will hold auditions for the summer youth program at the Chief Theatre starting this weekend. This year, the productions will be Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” and Joseph Robinette’s “The Trial of the Big Bad Wolf.” Auditions will be held on Saturday, May 18, at 10 a.m. and Tuesday, May 21 at 7 p.m. at the Chief Theatre, 25 East Park Avenue in Chiefland, FL.

Chiefland fire tax up in the air

Chiefland commissioners are holding on plans to move forward with a proposed fire tax for city residents, agreeing by consensus Monday night after hearing from the city's fire chief.

Officials asking for caution near prescribed burn

A 400-acre prescribed burn is being conducted by Florida Forestry in the area of State Road 121 and County Road 326 in Levy County.
