  • Mad about garbage

Don't you agree that the majority of the population appreciates the trailers provided for our recyclables?
To be able to separate items and not make our landfill that much larger seems a real blessing.
Last week, a gentleman was replacing a full trailer, and I mentioned how sad it is that some people use them as garbage recepticles.
He replied,"Yes," pointing to some open garbage bags. "They are full of dirty diapers."
Another time, a man was parked by the trailer and was actually using a shovel to scoop trash into the windows

  • Outraged over theft

This is a message for the person who “appropriated” the historic Town of Albion, Fla., railroad station sign which stood on the south side of State Road 24 across from the entrance to University Oaks.
Your actions clearly demonstrate what a selfish, inconsiderate, and disrespectful person you are.
You are selfish for robbing everyone else of a marker denoting the history and heritage of Levy County, so you can decorate the walls of your shop or hunt camp.

  • Two days of infamy

Pearl Harbor, Dec. 7, 1941, and New York City, Sept. 11, 2001 are two days that as Americans are permanently etched into our way of life — when America was struck by its enemies without provocation. Both of these days, although 60 years apart, are joined by the loss of American life into the thousands followed by a world view into the resolve of the human spirit that makes us supremely American.

  • Economic growth for Levy County

Southern Levy County has been targeted by various industries and the potential for growth in this part of the County may become a reality. There are also several other  things just several miles south of the border in Citrus County that may bring opportunity  for jobs and an increased tax base for Levy County.

  • Thanks to the community

An epic thank you to our community for its support in making the first ever Epic End Summer Bash a successful event. There were many happy faces and delighted squeals from excited children. Happy school year to all.

Thank you to all the contributors, without whom this event would not have been a success:

  • Wake up America

What is the President afraid of? Obama is going to give a major speech to tell the people how he is proposing to solve the jobs problem. But, he is waiting to make his proposals known to us sometime in September after Congress returns to Washington, D.C.
What he is afraid of is letting us know NOW what he is proposing because we will have time to digest his solutions. This would allow us time to let our senators and representatives  know what we think before they return to Washington, D.C.
If his proposals are so great, what is he afraid of?

  • County Government – Its' Heart Warming No.2

Allow me to continue from my last letter to the editor.
Three Levy County Commissioner’s, (Ryan Bell, Danny Stevens and Chad Johnson) hired attorney Brien A. Bolves, to represent the three commissioner’s actions, on behalf of the Tarmac mining project.

  • Letter to Rick Turner

I was saddened and a bit taken back when I read your statement from the last school board meeting: “This legislative body is telling us where their care is, and that’s into charter schools, and not public schools.”  This statement clearly showed a lack of understanding regarding charter schools as well as a lack of compassion for the parents who choose these alternatives for their children.  So please allow me to clear up a few things.

  • DHSMV does protect Floridians’ personal information

I would like to respond to media reports that the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles is selling your personal information.

  • Commissioner disputes quotes

I read your article regarding my motion to appoint someone from my district to the Planning Commission and your editorial titled “Our View” regarding non-agenda items and I would like to set the record straight.
