  • Surprised about Rosewood

I was surprised to read that Dr. Marvin Dunn plans to go ahead with his Rosewood event even though the Levy County Commissioners denied his petition for a special event’s permit.  Many events are held in Levy County each year and the sponsors of those events have no difficulty applying for and providing the county with all required information to ensure a safe environment for all involved.

  • Wake up, America

Now that the elections are over, the hard work starts.

  • Annual celebration a success

The National Wildlife Refuge System celebrated National Wildlife Refuge Week across the country.  Inviting you to join in, refuges hosted open house events, trail walks, wildlife programs, and bird walks throughout the over 100 million acre system of public lands tasked to provide habitat for the present and future generations.

  • Children's sports should be fun

Soccer to a 4 or 5 year old should be fun. Coaches should remember their age when introducing the game to them. Parents should remember that it is only a game and a time of fun for their little ones.

  • Comments on Paynes Prairie plan

Those who were at the September Cracker Chapter (FTA) meeting are aware of the discussion about major changes that are about to be implemented at Paynes Prairie. I asked one of the members of "Friends of the Prairie" to provide the address of a park official so that we might voice our individual concerns about the change. The following is her response:

  • Motorists should look out for bikers

Saturday, Sept. 25, around 3 p.m, a man named Bob was killed.
No  big deal, after all he was on a motorcycle. That's how the court system seems to view this useless and not so significant death.
But on Sept. 25 around 3 o'clock our brother and friend Biker Bob was killed in an accident with a 2002 Ford pickup. The man in the pickup went by the auction that was on State Road 26, wanted to get back to it, and made a U-turn in front of Robert J. Carrier. A man is dead, and that's the cold harsh truth.

  • Thank you from the Worthingtons

The Worthington Family would like to take this time and opportunity to thank our family, friends and Concord Baptist Church for all their prayers, food, flowers and visits during the time of our loss of my husband, father and grandfather.  Thank you again for everything.

  • Support Amendment 4

My support for Amendment 4 to Florida’s Constitution known as the “Hometown Democracy Amendment” is very much related to my professional experiences over the last 60 years as a practicing architect, planner, participating citizen and educator. I have long observed myths related to continued population increase and economic growth in Florida.
