     World War II veterans celebrate Christmas

  • Veterans’ civilian career launch focus of Talent Marketplace

     Workforce Connection is hosting Talent Marketplaces to connect men and women who have served in the U.S. armed forces with local employers who value the leadership skills and work ethic veterans have to offer. 

  • Local FFA members compete nationally

     This October, seven Chiefland senior FFA members, along with advisors Dallas Locke and Katie Jones, traveled to the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Ind.  They represented the state of Florida well, with the Dairy Judging team finishing 23rd and team member Rheba Sheffield qualifying as a gold medal finalist.  Also, Hailey Bason made top 16 in the nation for Creed Speaking, and Sarah Gore competed in the National Talent Competition.

  • Library friends to meet

     The Friends of the Luther Callaway Public Library (FLCPL), will hold the monthly meeting at the Library, 104 N.E. 3rd St., Chiefland (a block behind City Hall), at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 9.  This month’s brief business meeting will be followed by an informal social.  Prospective members and guests are invited.  

  • Hummingbird program

  • Local dog breeders win with Moose

    Sandra King said she first got interested in large dogs after a series of burglaries at her Chiefland home back in the mid 1980’s. She said she was working at a veterinary clinic at the time, and a co-worker, after hearing about the break-ins, said, “You need an Anatolian.”

  • Local radio stations merge sound

    Chiefland based WLQH-AM, 940 on the dial has a change in format this week as the programming is being merged with WZCC in Cross City.

  • Levy County Legislative Delegation meets Dec. 15

    State Rep. Leonard Bembry (D-Greenville) has announced the Levy County Legislative Delegation will hold its annual meeting on Wednesday, Dec. 15, at 4 p.m. The meeting will be held in the Levy County Commission Chambers at the Levy County Courthouse, 355 S. Court St., Bronson. 

  • New EMS equipment lifeline for cardiac patients

    The life-saving services provided by Levy County Emergency Medical Services may benefit from the installation of new equipment on county ambulances designed to improve the survivability of heart patients being rushed to the hospital.
