    Following are the 14 people suspected of drug crimes who were arrested in the recent roundup in Chiefland:

  • 14 busted in Chiefland drug raid

    Busted!

    This is probably among the words flying through the air as suspected drug buyers and sellers called each other on their cell phones shortly after 2 p.m. on Saturday.

    That's when a set of drug raids started. Officers netted 14 people who are suspected of having committed 38 felonies and four misdemeanors on March 22, according to records.

  • Sheriff's Report

    Officers with the Levy County Sheriff's Office recently arrested the following people. Suspects are presumed innocent until they are proved guilty in a court of law.

    * James Aloysious Williamson, 28, of Trenton was arrested March 15 for armed burglary of a dwelling, two counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, domestic battery and animal cruelty. Bond $67,500.

    * William R. Gee, 36, of Hernando was arrested March 18 for possession of cocaine. Bond $5,000.

  • CFCC offers classes

    Central Florida Community College will hold information sessions for Health and Human Services programs - including nursing, physical therapist assistant, surgical technology - which have no waiting lists for admission.

  • Road crew fixes problem on CR 335

    BRONSON - They build, repair and maintain roads in Levy County.

    A team of 67 men and women make up the Levy County Road Department, and they make sure the highways and byways allow people to traverse them.

    Watching work at one site for a couple of hours on March 5 provided an opportunity to see one aspect of the work they do -- repairs.

  • 14-year-old dies in crash

    A Chiefland woman was involved in a fatal head-on collision Saturday afternoon, in which a 14-year-old boy died, according to Florida Highway Patrol Cpl. J.T. Clark.

    Joyce McCraney, 63, was driving a 2003 Ford F-150 pickup west on State Road 26 when Herbert Brown, 63, of Old Town was eastbound on SR 26 at about 1:40 p.m. as he drove a 1991 Buick.

    Brown entered the westbound lane to go around a car that had stopped in the highway's eastbound lane, Clark said, as the stopped vehicle was attempting to turn left onto T.L. Johnson Boulevard.

  • Parker named to School Foundation

    Philip Parker, Florida Resource Manager for Plum Creek Timber Company, has been appointed to a three-year term on the board of the Levy County Schools Foundation. Parker's appointment was confirmed at the February Board of Directors Meeting.

  • Levy schools looking to survive more cuts

    BRONSON –The storm clouds that were on the horizon are now here for the School Board of Levy County.

    Financial officer Robert Clemons believes that with proper precautions, Levy will be able to survive the spring state budget cut storm.

    The 2008-09 school year is another story.

    With additional state funding cuts estimated at more than a half million dollars, Levy is preparing to make moves that could shave a big chunk of money.

    These moves revealed at Tuesday's school board meeting would hopefully prevent faculty and other staff casualties.

  • Aldrich is Chiefland Elementary's chief volunteer

    Lynda Aldrich has been chosen Chiefland Elementary School's Volunteer of the Year.

    Aldrich has worked more than 224 hours at the school so far, helping out various grade levels with whatever jobs need to be done. She is friendly, efficient, and a tireless worker.

  • Miss Ruth to wed Mr. Alford

    Mr. and Mrs. Joe P. Ruth of Old Town announce the engagement of their daughter, Alicia Blanche to Cecil "Edward" Alford Jr. of Chiefland, son of Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Alford of Cedar Key.

    The bride-elect is a 1996 graduate of Dixie County High School and is a registered nurse. She is employed by the Orthopaedic Surgery Center in Gainesville.

    The future groom is a 1996 graduate of Cedar Key High School and is employed by Central Florida Electric Co-op in Chiefland.

    A summer wedding is being planned.
