 The Chiefland Lions Club provided free diabetic screenings at the Chiefland Watermelon Festival on June 4th, and was able to screen 49 individuals.  Of these 49 individuals, 14 of them were referred to their doctor for further evaluation.  The youngest person referred to their doctor was 7 years old.

 First Baptist Church of Chiefland aired previews of the movie “Courageous” during its Father's Day Breakfast on June 18. The movie, in theaters Sept. 30, is about four police officers tackling their fears and their faith while learning lessons about what it takes to be a courageous dad. Pictured left, Stuart Wasson goes over scriptures and talks about steps to becoming a courageous father. More than 70 were in attendance and enjoyed a tasty breakfast that included biscuits and sausage gravy.

Six local groups asked the Levy County Tourism Development Council for $15,000 in advertising dollars and were granted $12,500 Thursday — pending one more step in the 2011-2012 application process.
