  • Small counties do well in difficult budget year

    Although it was a tough budget year in Tallahassee for the 2011 Legislative Session, small fiscally constrained counties did see some light at the end of the tunnel. 

  • Presidential hopeful courts Levy County

    John Davis, a businessman seeking the Republican nomination for president, brought his three-foot star-spangled pipe wrench and his brand of fixer-upper conservative politics to Levy County on Tuesday.
    The pipe wrench represents the Colorado resident's campaign theme, "Let's Fix America."
    Davis, who is on his sixth bus trip around the country to raise awareness of his campaign, said Levy is the 644th of the country's 3,260 counties he has visited.

  • Free recycling pickup offered to Chiefland

    Chiefland commissioners decided to postpone a decision Monday night that would let the city’s waste management contractor provide a free recycling pickup for the next year.
    The proposed recycling program would require the city to renew its contract with the waste management company Waste Pro a year in advance, overlapping its current contract. The new contract would be for another three years.

  • Grand Opening at Mangrove Outfitters

    Mangrove Creek Outfitters had its opening this past weekend. Owner Robert Hornsby said about 60 people “not including friends and family,” had visited the store on Friday and through the first half of Saturday.


    The store is open 8 a.m. - 6 p.m. everyday except, Sunday and Monday.

    They accept Visa, MasterCard, Discover, debit cards and cash.

  • Hunger is NOT on this diet's menu

       The Williston Public Library will have a South Beach Diet Weight-Loss Program at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, June 21.
       The first 30 people to arrive at the program will receive a free South Beach Diet book. Join in on the great tips, proven tricks and taste delicious diet food. Participants also will receive the support they need to make healthy changes in their diet and lifestyle.

       Cross Brand Cowboy will be starting its 3rd Annual Kids Ranch Rodeo Series on Saturday.    This is a four-month series which you are able to come to one of them or all.

    Jamerson-Sheffield Post 91 meeting
    The Jamerson-Sheffield Post 91 of the American Legion has its June meeting. It will begin with the E-Board meeting at 5 p.m., followed by dinner at 5:30. All members, both the Legionnaires and Auxiliary members, are encouraged to attend. The auxiliary needs to elect new officers, but its members need to be there to participate. The post is located next to the FFA Arena on U.S. Highway 129 between Trenton and Bell.
