    World War II Veterans to meet

     The April meeting of World War II veterans will be held at 10 a.m. at Branford High School in Branford. Veterans will visit classes and speak to the students, answer their questions. The Veterans will also be honored in a program prepared by the students.

  • First Cycle for Education on Saturday

    The Levy County Schools Foundation will be holding it's first Cycle for Education on Saturday.

    The bicycle ride will begin at the Chiefland Regional Shopping Center at 102 North Main Street in Chiefland.      SAG stops, with food and beverage available, will be located in Fanning Springs and Old Town until noon.  The ride to Old Town and back to Chiefland is approximately 25 miles.  Riders may ride further if they choose.

    This little cutie is Cuddles, a rescued 2-year-old, male poodle, who is looking for a forever home.  He is full of love and play and gets along well with children and dogs. Cuddles is residing at the Dixie County Humane Society and more informatuion, including how you can adopt him, can be found at www.petfinder.com, or by calling Pam at (352) 542-1081.

  • Sentencing delayed for Parker

    The sentencing of convicted Levy County Commissioner Tony Parker of Bronson has been delayed from April 5 to 10 a.m. April 14 to give his attorney more time to prepare for the sentencing hearing.

    Parker was convicted on Dec. 5, 2009, along with Commission Chair Sammy Yearty of Gulf Hammock of soliciting and accepting a bribe from an undercover FBI agent posing as a developer.

    Guardian ad litem program

    Volunteer to advocate for the best interest of abused and neglected children in the court system.  In Levy County, there are about 80 children in the child welfare system.  Help ensure these children are heard and not forgotten.      Love and Remembrance Memorial

    Haven Hospice’s Love and Remembrance Memorial is at 6 p.m. at Haven Hospice Tri-Counties Care Center Garden, 311 NE 9th St., Chiefland.

    The services are open to anyone who has lost a loved one. Attendees are encouraged to bring pictures and mementos of loved ones that can be placed on our Table of Memories. Refreshments will be served. Registration is not required.

       Be a powerful voice in a child’s life.  Advocate in the court system for children who have been taken away for neglect and abuse.

    Convicted Levy County commissioner Tony Parker's sentencing has been delayed from 1 p.m. today until April 14. Parker was convicted in December, along with Commissioner Sammy Yearty, of soliciting and accepting a bribe from an undercover agent. More details in Thursday's Chiefland Citizen.

  • American Legion Auxiliary 383 Easter dinner for veterans

     The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 383, Old Town, is having an Easter Dinner – ham and all fixings – on Sunday, April 4, from 12:30  p.m. to 3:30 p.m.  A nominal donation of $5.00 is asked. 

      This dinner is for American Legion,  Sons of the American Legion and Auxiliary  members, their families and guests.  Not everyone has someone – so don’t be alone – come spend the afternoon with us and have a good meal was well!
