Just as they always do this time of year, Levy Association for Retarded Citizens (LARC) clients, staff and board members assembled in the dining room of the old Otter Creek School to receive the donation check from the host of the annual Wild Hog Canoe Race fund-raiser.

For the last three years, that group has been AMVETS Post 88 of Bronson, and this year they brought a check for $6,800.

The total was just a little over last year's contribution of $6,725, and post commander Clyde McGarva felt it keenly.

"We wanted to do better by them," he said.

BRONSON - The reports of the death of the Library Advisory Board have been greatly exaggerated, it appears.

During the April 22 County Commissioners meeting, talk about possibly dissolving the nine-year old committee surfaced.

Once five-people strong, the LAB has recently dwindled to just one - chairman Dave Kendall.

Usable ideas from the LAB were few and far between, according to Levy Chief Librarian Bonnie Tollefson, suggesting its days may be numbered.

CEDAR KEY -They came from near and far Saturday to have a great time on the water off the Cedar Keys, but more importantly, to help out the Chiefland Rotary Club with one of its major fundraisers -the annual Fishing Tournament.

The number of boats participating -44 -nearly matched last year's total of 47. A good sign considering the current state of the economy.

But with more sponsors this year, the net money raised came out to be quite a bit more.

Students at Chiefland Elementary will have something to crow about as construction on eight new classrooms is set to begin in October.

The Levy County School Board discussed the construction plans at their meeting this week, announcing the additions will replace Chiefland Elementary's 20-year-old portables.

Four classrooms will be for intermediate grades and four for primary grades. Joyce Bullock Elementary and also Cedar Key Elementary will see some improvements as well.
