  • REUNIONS: Swilley, Horne

       The Swilley family reunion will take place Sunday, July 24, at Hart Springs at 1 p.m.
       Family and friends are invited. Please bring a covered dish.

       The Grandpa Poley Horne Reunion will be held Sunday, August 7 at the Levy County Quilt Museum.  It will be an all day gathering with music.  Bring food for the lunch buffet and come enjoy the day.  A drawing for the Blue Star Quilt will be done that day.

  • Log Cabin Qulters for July 14

    Director, Quilt Museum
    The Log Cabin Quilters met Thursday, July 7, at the Levy County Quilt Museum. Fellowship is always great each Thursday. We visit with each other, catch up on each others activities, doctor visits, latest projects and vacations. We learn of sick friends that need to be added to the prayer list and are so thankful for everyone who comes to meet each week.
      Greg and six boys were out Tuesday and as we have had rain the grass is green and growing.  The flowers are so pretty and blooming. Thanks Lancaster.

  • Haven Hospice introduces Haven on Wheels to enhance patient services

    Haven Hospice volunteer Shellie Shelton truly embodies the meaning of care and compassion.
    Shelton drives Haven patient Mary Wardlaw from Bronson to Chiefland and back every month to shop at Walmart. Shelton helps Wardlaw move about the store and pull items from the top shelf, as Wardlaw is unable. Shelton and Wardlaw enjoy the travel time together and have found they have a lot in common. Wardlaw would not be able to do her monthly shopping it if wasn’t for Haven on Wheels.

  • Rain won't slow ride

    Under a canopy of gray skies Saturday morning, a group of bikers left Williston for Kentucky with the ashes of veteran John Waddy Jr.

  • Fund set up for Jessie Short, family

    Jessie Short, an 18-year-old rising senior at Chiefland High School, was involved in a car accident two weeks ago, which has left him comatose at Shands Hospital and his family needs your help. 

    His parents, John and Ruby Short, live in Tampa but he stays in Chiefland with his grandparents, James and Patsy Hiers. His parents often travel from Tampa to Gainesville to be with him.

  • Savings from a day's furlough

    The Levy County Commission is discussing using furloughs to cut its costs, rather than layoffs, to meet its budget in the coming year. To that end, Jared Blanton, a finance clerk, drew up the approximate savings.

    A man being sought in connection with a home invasion in Chiefland Sunday night was apprehended in Dixie County Tuesday afternoon.

  • Fans of Fanning say proposed campground fails

    Fanning Springs State Park will suffer at the hands of private developers if a proposed plan for additional campsites is allowed to come to fruition, park enthusiasts and residents told a panel of state  officials last week.
