    The Levy County Sheriff’s Office reports the following arrests:
    n Sept. 29, Terry Lee Arnold, 38, Inglis, DWLSR. Bond $1,000.
    n Sept. 26, Beverly Sue Bellomy, 44, Williston, obstruction w/o violence.
    n Sept. 28, Christopher Lee Brunelle, 20, Williston, petit theft, damage to property. Bond $35,000.
    n Sept. 26, Fredrick Alvin Charles, 33, Inglis, DWLSR. Bond $500.
    n Sept. 27, Terrel Eugene Dexter, 48, Lakeland, non support of children or spouse. Bond $750.

  • Commission considers home size, generator noise

    Residents plead for some relief

    Residents asked the Levy County Commission for some relief from regulations on a minimum home size, limerock roads, and the generator noise of a neighbor without electricity.
    Their pleas came during the commission's regular Tuesday meeting and while the question of the home size was settled, the road won't be paved anytime soon, and the noise problem will take some time to resolve.

  • Evan Sullivan announces for sheriff

    Levy County native and Sheriff's Maj. Evan Sullivan announced he is running for sheriff as a Republican in the 2012 election.
    The fourth generation law enforcement officer said he is running because, “I was born and raised in Levy County, and my family has served our community for decades. It would be a great honor for me to serve my fellow citizens as sheriff.”

  • Fowlers Bluff gets $2.9 M for safe water

    Fowlers Bluff residents will have cleaner, safer drinking water in June thanks to the efforts of locals to replace an aging water treatment plant built in the 60s.
    David Woener, a member of the Fowlers Bluff Water Systems Association Inc., said the area's water board has been trying to get the system replaced for years. Many of the water lines are corroded and are in constant need of repair, he said. "And it's out of compliance with DEP (Florida Department of Environmental Protection),"

  • Sheriff buys cars, lays off top staff

    For the third year in a row Levy County Sheriff Johnny Smith has found some extra cash in his budget at the close of the fiscal year — close to $250,000  — and bought six cars for $173,935.

  • Drones to patrol Cedar Key skies

    Residents in Cedar Key may look up into the sky in 2012 and spot drones flying overhead — similar to the ones used last week to attack and kill the alQaeda leader in Yemen.

    Shrine Club breakfast
    The Suwannee River Shrine Club will hold its monthly country breakfast from 7 to 10:30 a.m. at the clubhouse on State Road 26, about a half-mile north of Fanning Springs.
    The menu includes sausage, eggs, bacon, biscuits, sausage gravy, grits, pancakes and coffee for $6 per person. Eat in or take out. Everyone welcome.

  • LARC fundraiser rolls on Saturday

       The sixth annual motorcycle fundraiser "Ride to Provide," to benefit Levy Association for Retarded Citizens (LARC), is Saturday, Oct. 22, at 10 a.m. Onsite registration begins at 7:30 a.m. at Bronson High School, with free coffee and doughnuts. The ride will begin with kickstands up at 10 a.m. Participants are encouraged to pre-register online at www.ridetoprovide.net.
