  • UM Men’s Falling Off the Bone Spare Rib Dinner

    The United Methodist Men of First United Methodist Church in Chiefland will host their annual Falling Off the Bone Spare Rib Dinner on Saturday, July 23, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the church at 707 N. Main St., Chiefland. You can dine in or take out. To reserve a dinner, call 352-493-4627

    The menu includes: spare ribs, cole slaw, baked beans, Junie’s buns, dessert and beverage (seconds welcome).

    The suggested minimum donation is $10 per adult meal or take-out with children under 10 eating free.

  • Chiefland Senior Center coordinator to retire

    Bernadette Preble has always wanted more for her clients since becoming a caregiver.

    She’s made it her mission to do more at the Suwannee River Economic Council Chiefland Senior Center, where Preble’s been the Older Americans Act coordinator since 2009, and subsequently a case manager.

    With her final day at the center coming this Friday, July 15, she took time last week before her retirement to reflect on the changes she has seen since her arrival.

  • 'Smoke' Auditions July 23 at the Chief

    Auditions for “Smoke on the Mountain” will be at The Chief Theater, 25. E. Park Ave., Chiefland, on Saturday, July 23 from 9 a.m. to noon and Tuesday, July 26 at 6 p.m.

    “Smoke on the Mountain” is the story of a Saturday Night Gospel Sing at a country church in North Carolina's Smoky Mountains in 1938. The show features two dozen rousing bluegrass songs played and sung by the Sanders Family, a traveling group making its return to performing after a five-year hiatus.

  • Help critters with donation

    The Critter Crusaders of North Florida are looking for donations of household items for a community yard sale to benefit the animals the animal advocacy group serves.

    The sale will be in September and the group is accepting donations through Aug. 31. To donate, call Al at 352-493-4857.

  • Disabled vets host cookout

    On Saturday, July 16, the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Tri-County Chapter 63  is hosting a Fundraising Cookout.  It is a day of fun, with music by local “DJ Nasty”, free prizes, and a menu of hamburgers/hot dogs, baked beans, cole slaw or potato salad for only $6. Drinks will be available too.  We will begin serving at 11 a.m. and continue  through 2 p.m. at Chantilly Place Salon, 310 Main Ave. Bronson, across from  Drummond Bank in Bronson

  • Cake auction a triple winner

    The Chiefland Lady Indians, three-time winners of the Florida 1A Softball Championship, proved they are winners at fundraising too.

    Because Chiefland Middle High School, nor the Florida High School Athletic Association do not provide the winners of state title with championship rings, the Chiefland Fastpitch Boosters, Inc., sponsored a cake, pie and dessert auction on June 29 at the fellowship hall at First Baptist Church of Chiefland.
