  • Sheriff's office shuts meth labs, dump site

    The Levy County Sheriff's Office is working a chain of information to shut methamphetamine (meth) manufacturing with the bust of a fourth lab — this latest rolling among U.S. Highway 27A, and a meth lab dump site in the past month.

    The drive to make Levy County started April 27 when a theft investigation led to the discovery of an active meth lab at a Chiefland residence. An man and a woman were arrested in that operation. (Fore earlier story, click here.)

    A few Chiefland High School students, with the help of teachers and a few government agencies, are taking the health of Florida's springs to heart.

  • Walk/bike path in South Levy poses problems

    Jordan Green, project engineer for the state Department of Transportation district that covers Levy County, is usually regarded either as Santa Claus or The Grinch by county commissions. 

  • Atheist bench appeal officially rejected by commission

    For the fourth time, the Levy County Commission unanimously voted against allowing Williston Atheists, an affiliate of American Atheists, to place a monument on the county courthouse forum. 

  • Tip leads deputies to Bronson meth lab

    A tip from a concerned citizen to the Levy County Sheriff's Office led to the discovery of an active methamphetamine lab on Northeast 85th Street in Bronson on Monday night, as well as the arrests of three men and a search for a fourth person.

  • Rubio staff visits Chiefland Thursday

    If any Levy County residents are having an issue with Social Security, Medicare, veterans benefits, immigration, the IRS or any federal agency a member of U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio’s staff will be available to meet on Thursday inChiefland.

    Please plan to attend and find out the services Rubio’s office offers. The office will be on Thursday, May 22, from 1:30 to 3 p.m. at Haven Hospice care facility, 311 N.E. 9th St., Chiefland.

  • Citizen closes early for softball champs parade at 4

    A parade to honor the Chiefland Lady Indian softball team, the 2014 Florida High School Softball Championship team will be Friday, May 23, at 4 p.m. and the Chiefland Citizen offices will close early to allow our staff to cheer the young women. 

    Chiefland Middle High School Principal Matt McLelland said the parade will start in the school parking lot and proceed south on U.S. Highway 19/Main Street to the Trailhead/Depot Park.

  • It's McTeacher’s Night tonight

    Ever dream of having your principal or teacher from Chiefland Elementary School prepare dinner for you and your schoolmates? Now’s your chance to assign the homework and help out CES.

    The principal and faculty will be serving dinar at the McDonald's in Chiefland tonight (Monday, May 19, between 6 and 8 p.m.

    Head to McDonald’s at 1415 N. Young Blvd. Have a meal, have some fun and help contribute to a good cause. McD's will donate 20 percent of all sales during this time will be donated to the school.
