  • Sheriff's Report & Most Wanted for the week of June 18

    The Levy County Sheriff's ffice reports the following arrests:

    •June 11, Tiki Monique Albritton, 31, Chiefland, DWLSR. Bond $5,000.

    •June 9, Benny J. Battle, 36, Bell, DUI, fail to register motor vehicle, DWLSR.

    •June 10, Jerrie Ann Bodden, 44, Williston, violation of protective order. Bond $50,000.

    •June 10, Larry Joe Colson, 41, Fleming Isle, out of county warrant. Bond $2,000.

  • Airman Arnold completes basic training in Texas

    Air Force Airman Jacob T. Arnold, son of Ira R. and April Arnold of Trenton, graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas. He is a 2014 graduate of Trenton High School, Trenton.

    The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.

  • Church News for the week of June 18

    Food distribution

    The Food for Life food distribution is on the second and fourth Saturday of the month starting at 10 a.m. at the Chiefland First United Methodist Church with a suggested donation of $3.50.

    VBS Bronson Road Church

    Bronson Road Church will hold vacation Bible school from 6-8:30 p.m. June 22-25.

    The church is located at 1380 NE 80th Ave., Newberry.

  • Great prizes for 'Battle of the Sexes' blood drive

    LifeSouth Community Blood Centers will be hosting its 5th Annual Battle of the Sexes blood drive competition June 22-26, and the ladies in North Florida will be trying to keep their record perfect.

    “This marks our fifth year, and the ladies have won every year,” said LifeSouth North Florida District Director Dustin Scott. “The whole idea is to beat the heat and add a little fun to the challenge of avoiding a summer blood shortage.”

  • Auditions continue for The Addams Family

    The Suwannee Valley Players presents auditions for The Addams Family Musical,  book by Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice, music and lyrics by Andrew Lippa, based on characters created by Charles Addams. Show dates: Oct. 16-18, 23-25, 30-31 and Nov. 1

  • Retired K-9 deputy dies

    Longtime Levy County Sheriff's K-9 Deputy Czar, whose human partner was Deputy Jay Crooms has answered his last call, passing on June 12.

    Czar, who was 12.5 years old and a native of Holland, emigrated to the United States at the age of 1 ½ years old.

    Czar met Crooms in 2004 and the two completed 640 hours of mandatory training becoming state certified in patrol apprehension and narcotic detection.

  • CES and CMHS go to Wild Adventures

    Christy Jones’ class went to Wild Adventures on Tuesday, May 26, a celebration of a yearlong mentoring program set up with Chiefland High School’s HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America) junior class led by Kelly Beauchamp. Beauchamp’s HOSA students came once a week during the school year and mentored students in Jones’ class at Chiefland Elementary.

  • Tri County Outreach receives 1,000 pounds of can goods

    Connie Brown, left, executive director for Tri County Outreach, accepts a food donation from Kassie Ortiz, postal employee in Chiefland. Tri County Outreach would like to thank the citizens of Chiefland for all the can goods that were donated to the food pantry May 9 as part of the annual Mother's Day Postal Workers Food Drive.

    Also a big thank you to all the postal workers who collected the cans.

    Tri County Outreach's emergency food pantry is open Monday-Thursday, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 708 N. Main St., Chiefland.
