A Bronson woman became the fifth traffic fatality for 2013 in Levy County when the car she was driving left the road and struck a tree shortly before 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 3, according to a Florida Highway Patrol press release.

The Levy County Commission will interview the top three candidates for Rob Corbitt's post at 9 a.m. Thursday. Corbitt is county building & development director who is retiring in April. 

The top candidates for the post are:

• Bill Hammond, Chiefland building official and organizer of the Chiefland Centennial Celebration;

• Luther Council Jr. former Wakulla County building official; and

• Randon Hays, assistant building official and chief inspector for Putnam County.

The middle Suwannee and lower Santa Fe rivers will approach flood stage Sunday, March 3, possibly activating two flood zones along the rivers, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC).

The FWC has been working with Suwannee River Water Management District personnel, who expect the Santa Fe to reach 17 feet above mean sea level at the Three Rivers gauge, where flood stage is 19 feet. The Suwannee River is expected to reach 47 feet above mean sea level at the Ellaville gauge, where flood stage is 54 feet.
