  • Fanning Springs' year in review

    Fanning Springs kicked off 2015 with Gilchrist County Judge Sheree Landcaster administering the oath of office to new Mayor Trip Lancaster, and Council members Barbara Locke and Ron Queen. They were sworn in at the Jan. 6 Fanning Springs City Council meeting.

    Also in January, Fanning Springs city council members approved a bid for construction work to be done on the new EMS station.

    The modular building was remodeled and with the finished product including bunk rooms, a kitchen, living area and bathrooms.

  • Speeding case turns into drugs and gun case

    Chiefland Police Officer Michael Cosseboom spotted a white Kia SUV with two men inside heading north at a high rate of speed on North Main Street on Sunday, Dec. 27, shortly after 2 p.m. and figured he would check it out. After all, the driver looked to be doing 50 in a 35 mph zone.

  • Family searches for crash victim's pup

    The family of A woman from Dover, Fla., who died after her vehicle failed to negotiate a curve on U.S. Highway 19 at Coulter Road shortly after noon on Sunday, Dec. 27, is asking for the public's help in locating a puppy traveling with her.

    Audrey H. Johnson, 84, was pronounced deceased on the scene by Paramedic Harry Sparks with the Levy County Fire Rescue at 12:31 p.m., according to a Florida Highway Patrol report.

  • Man dies in Christmas crash

    A family was left mourning on Christmas when Samuel Williams, 30, of Trenton, died in a one-vehicle crash at 9 p.m. on Dec. 25 on U.S. Highway 129 and County Road 345, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report.

    Williams was driving a 2010 Chevy Malibu south on US 129 when it failed to negotiate the curve at the intersection with CR 345. The car went onto the east shoulder and struck a tree.

    The driver was transported to Shands Hospital at the University of Florida where he was pronounced deceased according to the report by FHP Cpl. T. Dillon.

  • Monday accident injures 6

    Six people were transported to Shands Hospital in Gainesville following an accident shortly after 2 a.m. Monday, Dec. 28, on State Road 320 in Levy County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol report.

    A 1998 Mazda pickup, operated by Ronald Harrelson, 36, of Trenton was traveling west on SR 320 when Harrelson became distracted by his five teen passengers.

  • PSC finalizes 2016 cost recovery for Duke Energy customers

    TALLAHASSEE — Florida’s Public Service Commission (PSC) has set recovery charges beginning in January 2016 for Florida’s five investor-owned electric utilities, including Duke Energy Florida, LLC.

  • Judge rejects challenge to Sabal Trail permit

    A Florida administrative law judge has rejected a challenge by an environmental group to the Department of Environmental Protection’s intent to issue a permit for the Sabal Trail natural gas pipeline.

    The purpose of the pipeline is to provide natural gas for generating electricity in Florida.

    The state’s part of the project includes about 233 miles of 36-inch pipe for the mainline and 21.5 miles of 24-inch pipe for the Citrus County connection.
