  • CHS gets behind Socks for Seniors

    Socks for Seniors is a non-profit community service project that organizes, collects and distributes new socks for seniors in communities all over the country.

    The holidays are a fun time of year with all the holiday work parties, family gatherings, meetings with old friends topped off with all the bells, whistles, hustle and bustle of the season. It's the friendliest and most giving time of year but, for some it can also be a depressing time of year and our seniors can get lost in the shuffle.

  • Chiefland commission meeting cancelled

    The second monthly meeting scheduled for Dec. 22, 2014, has been cancelled. 

    The nest commission meeting will be Jan. 12, 2015, at 6 p.m. in City Hall, 214 E. Park Ave.

  • It's the season for scamming the unsuspecting

    It must be something in the air, but scams seem to be blooming in Levy County.

    Levy County Commissioner Mike Joyner of Morriston issued what is becoming an annual warning about unscrupulous contractors who offer homeowners deals that are too good to be true, while the Levy County Sheriff’s Office is reporting that it has received several complaints in the recent days alerting the office to potential scams.

  • Sheriff's office gets first deputy certified in drug program

    Levy County Deputy Sheriff Brandin Sullivan recently completed all the training requirements of the Drug Evaluation and Classification (DEC) Program, also known as the Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) Program.  Sullivan became one of approximately 240 DREs in the State of Florida and is the first with the Levy County Sheriff’s Office. 

  • Sheriff's Report & Most Wanted for December 18

    The Levy County Sheriff's Office reports the following arrests:

    • Dec. 14, Iverson Tyrone Aiken, 23, Cross City, battery, resisting office. Bond $35,000.

    • Dec. 13, Shawn Daniel Bailey, 34, Williston, causing cruelty, death, pain or suffering to an animal. Bon $3,000.

    • Dec. 9, Michael Bivins, 45, Jennings, resisting arrest.

    • Dec. 10, Edmundo Trinidad Bocanegra, 60, Trenton, no motor vehicle registration, violating nonresident exemption driver's license. Bond $500.

  • FHP monitoring conditions on CR 326, SR 26

    The Florida Highway Patrol is monitoring an area on County Road 326 between County Road 337 and County Road 343 in Levy County throughout the night for the possibility of smoke and fog which could create hazardous driving conditions.

    Drivers should use caution especially during the night time and early morning hours.

    Motorists are reminded to reduce their speed and utilize low beam headlights in order to adapt to changing weather conditions.

  • Anonymous gifter surprises shoppers

    An anonymous person with a big heart — and pocketbook — made a stop in the Chiefland Walmart Monday and paid for about $51,000 worth of merchandise that shoppers had put on layaway in previous weeks.

    "It's a good thing. It's a great act of kindness," Walmart Co-Manager Jason Ashley said.

    Monday was the last day to pick up layaway items.

    Ashley, who has worked at the Chiefland store for about two years, said the glow on people's faces was rewarding.

  • Smoke warning for Gulf Hammock

    The Florida Highway Patrol is monitoring the area of State Road 55 and County Road 326 near Gulf Hammock in Levy County due to a 10-acre prescribed burn.

    The Department of Forestry officials advised they do not expect the residual smoke to impact any major roadways, however, motorists are urged to use caution when traveling in this area.
