  • Letters to the Editor

    To the editor:

I am married to a teacher that has been pinked slipped. I feel that I must state that Mr. Stewart did indeed join the DROP program and is in the extended DROP as Teachers did have the option to continue in DROP for an additional three years, which does not constitute “double-dipping”.  Even though he is at the top of his pay scale, I can assure you that his salary is still less than what the Superintendent and Principals are making and these administrative personnel are not even in the classroom teaching the future leaders of Levy County.

  • Letters to the Editor

    To the editor:

Water within the Dixie, Gilchrist and Levy County areas has been a “Hot Topic” for some time. I believe most of the citizens in this area have concerns about keeping our natural resource, water, in our area.

On Sunday, March 15, 2009 I found mself in a situation I’m not very familiar with. I have spent many years responding and assiting people with medical emergencies, on this particular afternoon I began not feeling well, upon insistence of my family, 911 was called. Both Williston fire department and Levy County Emergency Medical Services responded.

  • No note? Go ask a judge for one

It’s a story right off the national news: Homeowners fighting to prevent foreclosure on their property ask a lender to produce the original promissory note in legal proceedings.

But in Levy County, it is the estate of Kathryn F. Causey, an accountant who died in January 2008, that is trying to stave off foreclosure by having the lender produce the promissory note.

  • Chiefland man dies in crash

A 77-year-old Chiefland man died Thursday morning in a one vehicle crash on US Highway 19 about 500 feet south of Fanning Springs, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report.

Paul Shobe was northbound in the inside lane of US 19 when his 2008 Chevrolet Silverado drifted northeast and went off the road onto the east shoulder and into the tree line on the east side of US 19.

  • Reach out to others

The poet William Cowper long ago wrote the lines:

God works in a mysterious way

    His wonders to perform.

He plants His footsteps on the sea

    And rides upon the storm.

One time, when the road of my life seemed a little rough, a friend placed a hand on my shoulder, and said some comforting words.  I gained courage and went on. Soon the road seemed smoother.
