  • Court Dispositions

       The following persons were sentenced, found not guilty or the case nolle pros — dropped — in the Criminal Division of the 8th Circuit Court in Levy County. The information is taken from public records. VOP means violation of probation.
    n Tonya Boyatt, fraud and grand theft, 24 months with credit for 46 days served on each; VOP on dealing in stolen property, probation revoked, 24 months with credit for 104 days served, served concurrently. Must pay civil judgment and $926.65 restitution.

  • Sheriff’s reports & Most Wanted for July 7

    The Levy County Sheriff’s Office reports the following arrests:
    n June 30, Reginald Ventrell Adams, 48, Chiefland, cause bodily harm, obstruction w/o violence, battery, possession. Bond $30,000.
    n June 30, Carl Appling, 45, Williston, DWLSR.
    n June 28, Mandy Raye Ashley, 31, Williston, unoccupied structure, petit theft-12 counts, altering public record-11 counts, altered instrument-13 counts, uttering false instrument, misrepresenting self-11 counts. Bond $380,000.

  • Deputy Joyner retires, school deputy becomes agricultural investigator

    Levy County Deputy Mike Joyner, who is also the agricultural investigator,  has stepped down from 38 years of full time law enforcement  to part-time status.
    Joyner, a long time Levy Countian has worked in all areas of law enforcement from patrol work to undercover drug investigations and serving as chief deputy in Jefferson County.
    Joyner is assigned to the Civil Division as a bailiff for 8th Judicial Circuit Criminal Judge David A. Glant. He will continue working with Glant.

  • Commander of the Year

     Bill Conquest, commander of the Sons Squadron of AMVETS Post 88, was awarded the Sons "Commander of the Year Award" at the 66th Annual Department of Florida Convention held June 10-12 in Orlando at the Rosen Centre Hotel.  Commander Mark Englert, department officer of Squadron No. 67 presented Conquest the award at the banquet.

  • Naval Sea Cadets undergo training

    A group of cadets from the US Naval Sea Cadets Corps in Yankeetown has returned from their first training.

  • Firefighters honored

     Fanning Springs Volunteer Fire Department volunteers were honored for their service at the department’s annual Summer Slam event on the Suwannee River June 11. City officials presented the department with a new basketball hoop. From left, Chris Anderson, Brett Boyce, Mike Mackenzie, Deputy Chief Elania Spain, Roy Spain, Chief Ron McQueen, Quinn Lesher, Steven Edgell and Alisha Decker.
