• Man charged in sexual battery of child

    Levy County Sheriff’s Office Investigators arrested Mariano Hernandez-Castro, 44, on Feb. 17, and have charged him with sexual battery of a child under 12 and lewd or lascivious molestation of a child under 12. Hernandez-Castro appeared before Levy County Judge Browning who set his bond at $1.75 million dollars.

    Sheriff's Investigator Cpl. Tom Martin received a report on Feb. 16 from the parent of an 8-year-old that the child had disclosed being sexually battered during visits to the Hernandez-Castro home.

  • Police look into infant death

    The Levy County Sheriff's Office is investigating the death of a less than 2-month-old boy in Bronson, according to a press release.

    Deputies, along with the Bronson Fire Rescue Department and Levy County Department of Public Safety personnel, were called Monday at 3:30 p.m. to a residence.

    A 911 caller reported that an infant at the home had been found unresponsive.

  • Chiefland police nab a really, really big fish

    When Chiefland Police Officers Scott Anderson and Tyler Brown spotted a speeding black SUV traveling south on U.S. 19 through Chiefland they flipped on their lights and stopped it just past the Winn Dixie shopping center at the Marathon gas station.

    Pretty normal thing, Police Chief Robert Douglas told the Chiefland City Commission on Monday evening. Except the stop was anything but.

    When the occupants rolled down the windows officers saw two well dressed men in suits and ties.

  • One death in one-car accident

    An accident shortly after noon Wednesday on U.S. Highway 19 north of Chiefland claimed the life of one person and will be investigated by the Florida Highway Patrol. 

    David D. Ables, 36, of Fanning Springs, died after his 2012 Chevy Malibu, which was southbound on U.S. Highway 19 crossed the median and two northbound lanes before hitting a concrete culvert and overturning before coming to a stop on the edge of a driveway.

  • Potential victims of sexual battery suspect sought

    A 60-year-old Dunnellon area man was charged with sexual battery on a victim less than 18 years of age last Friday, a Marion County Sheriff’s Office arrest affidavit stated.

    According to the report, major crimes detectives charged Charles Elder after a thorough follow-up investigation. Detectives have reason to believe that Elder may have other victims that have not yet come forward.

  • Lundy named 2015 Law Enforcement Officer of the Year

    Taylor County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Robert Lundy was named the Attorney General’s 2015 Law Enforcement Officer of the Year. Attorney General Pam Bondi and Governor Rick Scott recognized Deputy Lundy and seven other officers from across the state for their dedication to protecting Floridians.

    •Jan. 18, Armando Alonso, 43, Archer, battery by strangulation, possession of marijuana, possession and/or use of drug paraphernalia. Bond $52,000.

    •Jan. 24, Rexford Batten, 31, Inglis, VOP.

    •Jan. 19, Christina Danielle Boyd, 34, Gainesville, DWLSR.

    •Jan. 18, Timothy Troy Brown, 44, Williston, battery. Bond $5,000.

    •Jan. 20, David Chilcote, 50, Williston, two out of county warrant, felony warrant. Bond $3,000.

  • Man arrested on sex charges

    A tip to the Florida Department of Children and Families Abuse Hotline has resulted in the arrest of a Williston man on charges he rigged his home to record young girls as they came out of the shower, according to a Levy County Sheriff's Office press release.

    Mark Kristian Stringer, 59, faces multiple charges of video voyeurism and two counts of lewd or lascivious battery of a minor child.

  • FWC Enforcement Report

    LEVY COUNTY – Officer Schulz was on land patrol in the area of Watermelon Pond Wildlife Management Area (WMA) when he found a vehicle parked in a secluded area during closed hunting season. Officer Schulz noted where the subject had entered the WMA and concealed himself to wait for the hunter’s return. When the hunter arrived he was dressed in camouflage, carrying a shotgun and a crow decoy with a speaker (electronic call). The man admitted to hunting during closed season and using electric game calls. Officer Schulz issued the appropriate citations and warnings.

  • Christian school worker arrested on sex charge

    A 26-year-old man who was a bus driver for Vision Christian Academy in Raleigh was arrested on Jan. 27 and faces charges of lewd and lascivious behavior with a seventh grade student.

    Devonte Jerome White, of Williston, was arrested after he admitted to Levy County Sheriff's deputies that he has engaged in sexual activity with the girl, but had ended the relationship and communication with the student, according to the arrest report.
