  • Chiefland driver cited in accident

    Friday the 13th was not kind to a Chiefland man who was cited for failure to yield the right of way after his SUV collided with a pickup truck and trailer on U.S. Highway 27A and County Road 347 on Friday, Nov. 13 at 4:15 p.m., according to a Florida Highway Patrol report.

    Dennis Andrews, 79, of Chiefland was driving a 2012 Chevrolet Equinox and crossing the median on U.S. 27A to turn left onto CR 347 when he failed to observe a 2012 GMC Sierra towing a trailer operated by Barry Jones, 58, of The Villages.

    •Oct. 27, Kristi D. Cooprider, 27, Inglis, two counts driving with expired license. Bond $1,000.

  • Educator turns self in to Levy on exposure charge in Marion

    Patrick J. Sasnett, 37, a dean at Evergreen Elementary School in Marion County, has been charged with exposing himself after a 44-year-old grandmother complained to authorities.

  • Fanning man arrested on assault, drug charges

    Levy County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Jermaine Carl Curtis, 32, on assault, drug and false imprisonment charges that stem from an incident in the Fanning Springs area that happened on Oct. 4. 

    A woman reported going to Curtis' home to purchase illegal narcotics from him but during the deal Curtis grabbed her, moved her into another room where he took more than $1,000.00 in cash rom her, beat her and threatened her with a firearm.

  • Gold coin theft - a mystery

    A Chiefland couple has reported the theft of 20 gold coins valued at $24,589, stored under a bed in a guest room, has gone missing from their home sometime between April and early September and the Chiefland Police Department is investigating the case as grand theft.

    The couple, in their 80s, said family, friends and a cleaning lady have been in the home during that time period. And they said the cleaning person, who has worked for them for five years, had a key to the home.

  • Man arrested in wife's disappearance 35 years ago

    Thirty six years to the day after Merl McFarland Mackey, Jr. married Evelyn LaVerne Trulock in Pinellas County, and almost 34 years after she disappeared from their Hernando County home, Mackey was booked into the Levy County Jail on a charge of 1st degree premeditated murder.
