• Police: Man threatened to bash in ex-wife’s head

    A Chiefland man was arrested by Chiefland police May 2 for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after he threatened to beat his ex-wife and her new boyfriend with a pole, according to a CPD arrest report.
    James Stevenson Ellerby Sr., 45, was drunk when he opened the door of his ex-wife’s home and began threatening to “bust their heads,” according to the report. The ex-wife told Ellerby to leave several times, and he did, shortly before police arrived.

    • May 8, Valrize Latrice Bristol, 31, Dunnellon, DUI, DWLSR, leaving scene of accident with personal injury. Bond $46,000.
    • May 6, Jeffery Blake Browning, 52, Dunnellon, RWV, disorderly intoxication and corruption by threat against a public servant. Bond $21,000.
    • May 3, James Stevenson Ellerby, 45, Chiefland, aggravated assault. Bond $50,000.
    • Miranda Lee McClain, 19, Bronson, VOP retail theft. Bond $5,000.

  • Sexual predator address change

    Terry Owens, 29, who was convicted in Alachua County in 2000 for lewd and lascivious on a child less than 12 years of age, has moved from Trenton to 16915 N.W. U.S. Highway 19, Fanning Springs.

  • Man arrested on heroin charge

     The Levy County Sheriff's Office and the Chiefland Police Department conducted a buy-bust drug operation and arrested Joseph "Angel" Wright, 23, of Mount Dora, for trafficking in heroin and oxycodone, according to a Sheriff's Office press release.

  • Old Town man arrested in Chiefland on drug charges

     The Levy County Sheriff's Office Drug Task Force and Chiefland Police Department arrested Robert Daniel Jones, 21, of Old Town on April 27 on four drug charges.

     The following persons were sentenced, found not guilty or the case nolle pros — dropped — in the Criminal Division of the 8th Circuit Court in Levy County. The information is taken from public records. VOP means violation of probation.

  • If at first you don't shoplift

    A 49-year-old Cross City woman wasted no time following through with shoplifting after being questioned about a failed shoplifting incident earlier that same day.
    Bennie M. Wiley was charged with misdemeanor retail theft on April 12. She first was questioned during a traffic stop by the Chiefland Police Department about attempted shoplifting at Chiefland Package. According to the arrest report, Wiley stated, "The lady got it back." No charges were filed because no items were actually removed from the store.

  • Couple charged with drugs, child neglect

    John Pierce, 35, of Cedar Key, was charged on March 4 with five felonies after a traffic stop in Chiefland. Pierce was charged with possession of methamphetamine, unlawful possession of prescription drugs, two counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and child neglect.
    A passenger in the vehicle, Callie Robinson Pierce, 28, of Cedar Key, was charged with felony possession of methamphetamine, misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia and felony child neglect.
