  • Chiefland meth lab busted; 2 arrested

    Levy County Sheriff's deputies investigating vehicle burglaries came across an active meth lab in Chiefland and arrested two people operating the business on Sunday, according to a Sheriff's Office press release.

  • Drummond customers targeted by scam

    The Levy County Sheriff's Office has received several reports from citizens saying they are receiving an automated phone call from an unknown party. Complainants are Drummond Bank customers and are being told during the message their card has been stolen.

    The call center at Drummond Bank is checking each member’s account, and has not reported any fraudulent transactions. Drummond Bank assures LCSO they are not making these calls and will not contact customers in this manner.

  • Department of Public Safety visits CES

    April is recognized as National 9-1-1 Education Month, and, with this in mind, the Levy County Department of Public Safety (LCDPS) approached the Chiefland Elementary School to present 9-1-1 information to children. LCDPS invited Chiefland Fire Rescue to join the team to deliver the information to students in grades 3 through 5. The two Departments were at the school for three hours April 2, teaching the children when to call 911 and what information they would be asked if they ever had to make that call.

    The Chiefland Police Department will be holding free women's physical defense classes beginning in May.

  • Child abuse investigation uncovers sex offender

    Levy County Sheriff's investigators checking out a child abuse complaint found a convicted sex offender who was not registered in Levy County was living in Chiefland with the 6-year-old child's mother and arrested the couple.

    Reggie Coneil Kearney, 37, is charged with one count of felony child abuse and failure to register an address in Levy as required, He is jailed on a $150,000 bond. Kearney was registered at a Gainesville address.

  • National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day Saturday, April 26

    The Levy County Sheriff's Office in partnership with the Levy County Prevention Coalition will be participating in the Federal Drug Enforcement Agency's National Prescription Drug Take Back Initiative.

  • 10 sex offenders caught not following rules

    Ten sex offenders on probation — including two living in a group home in East Williston — have been arrested on charges of violating their probation by having email accounts, Internet access, child pornography, computers and mobile phones. All are prohibited by the terms of their release into the communities in Levy County.
