  • Man charged with equipment theft

    A Bronson man has been charged with  grand theft and dealing in stolen property, and the truck, flatbed trailer and loader used to take a logging skidder, valued at $7,500, were seized, according to a Levy Sheriff's Office press release.
    Michael Dwayne Douglas, 51, is charged with taking the Franklin logging skidder  that was parked at the Wolf Springs Hill area in Bronson.
    When deputies questioned Douglas, he claimed to have purchased the skidder from another man on Dec. 11,  but the man denied seeing Douglas for several years.

  • Sheriff's report and Most Wanted for Dec. 29

    The Levy County Sheriff reports the follow arrests:
    • Dec. 25, Thomas Joseph Carlisle, 19, Bronson, battery on officer, firefighter or EMT.
    • Dec. 22, Jeremy Lamar Clemons, 18, Trenton, disorderly intoxication in a public place causing a disturbance, obstruction w/o violence. Bond $5,500.
    • Dec. 24, Tami Lynn Cox, 38, Williston, battery.
    • Dec. 22, Michael Dwayne Douglas, 51, Bronson, grand theft, dealing in stolen property. Bond $35,000.

  • Convicted in Alachua, living in Williston

    Five men convicted of sex crimes — two designated as predators and three as offenders — are sharing the same residence in East Williston, although all of them are from Alachua County.
    And while it may seem coincidental, the state probation office is fully aware of the living situation and has approved the home for Christopher Caffie and Detwan Wommack, labeled sexual offenders and Robert Lewis Jr., Jeremy Astrologo and Robert J. Perry, all convicted predators.

    The Levy County Sheriff’s Office reports the following arrests:
    n Dec. 13, Cody Wayne Andrews, 19, Williston, dealing in stolen property and grand theft. Bond $13,500.
    n Dec. 14, Joey Berry, 23, Trenton, out of county warrant. Bond $5,000.
    n Dec. 16–James Macolm Bonner, 43, Reddick, FTA, four counts obtaining goods/services. Bond $20,000.
    n Dec. 18, Eric Alan Booth, 50, Cedar Key, DUI. Bond $2,500.

  • Drug dealer sentenced to 45 years

    Hermie McClendon of Chiefland has been sentenced to 45 years in prison for his conviction in a case that also spawned a jury tampering charge against his lifelong friend.
    McClendon was found guilty by a jury on charges of possession of a controlled substance without a prescription and sale of a controlled substance. He was sentenced on Nov. 29 to 15 years on the first charge and 30 years on the second, both to be served concurrently.

  • Chiefland man arrested on drug charge

    Torry F. "Big White" White, 45, of Chiefland, was arrested Dec. 12 on trafficking in Lortab and Oxycodone, by the Levy County Sheriff's Office Drug Task Force conducting undercover drug purchases.
    Agents gave a confidential source $120 which was used to buy 25 pink pills from White, according to a Levy County Sheriff's Office press release.
    The agents identified the pills as Lortab, a drug prescribed by physicians for pain management.

  • Man accused of supplying drugs to Chiefland, Cedar Key

    Kenyatta Daron Howard. 36, of Hawthorne was arrested Dec. 16 by the North Florida Violent Fugitive Task Force on drug charges, according to a Levy County Sheriff's Office press release.
    Howard was considered as a mid level drug dealer in Levy County supplying drugs to the Cedar Key and Chiefland areas, according to the release. The Levy County Sheriff's Office Drug Task Force made undercover drug buys from Howard and obtained an arrest warrant for sale and possession with intent to distribute cocaine.   

  • DHSMV warns customers about unnecessary fees

    TALLAHASSEE – The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles has issued a warning to its customers about deceptive websites that lure people into paying a fee to access DHSMV’s online motorist services. The official-looking websites require their customers to pay a surcharge for their assistance. DHSMV does not require a surcharge for any of its websites -- www.GoRenew.com and www.flhsmv.gov and others. The Department posts fees on www.flhsmv.gov.

    The Levy County Sheriff’s Office reports the following arrests:
    n Dec. 9, Cynthia Krystal Brownfield, 26, Cross City, grand theft.
    n Dec. 11, Gerald David Browning, 31, Trenton, deadly weapon without intent to kill. Bond $5,000.
    n Dec. 8, Ashley Nicole Coronado, 22, Bronson, petit theft. Bond $500.
    n Dec. 6, Howard Lee Dayton, 23, Morriston, two counts VOP.
    n Dec. 7, Jonathan Lee Figueroa, 25, Chiefland, grand theft. Bond $15,000.
    n Dec. 5, Sarah Suzette Fine, 24, Cedar Key, battery.

  • Chiefland officer involved in crash

    Nobody was injured in a Dec. 4 car crash involving a Chiefland Police officer and a Bronson man, according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol.
    At about 5 p.m., according to the report, CPD officer Justin R. Douglas was driving northbound on State Road 55 in the inside lane heading out to a call in "emergency mode" when he attempted to make a left-hand turn across the southbound lanes on to N.W. 11 Avenue.
