  • Gunman gets lighter sentence in home invasion

    The last man to be sentenced in the armed home invasion of a residence outside Williston in February was given a total of 10 years time as arranged with the state attorney's office.
    Hillary Henderson, 20, of Chiefland, who pleaded guilty to a charge of armed home invasion and being a convicted felon in possession of a gun, was given seven years in prison on the first charge to be served after serving a minimum 3 years on the gun charge.

  • Court Dispositions

       The following persons were sentenced, found not guilty or the case nolle pros — dropped — in the Criminal Division of the 8th Circuit Court in Levy County. The information is taken from public records. VOP means violation of probation.
    n Tonya Boyatt, fraud and grand theft, 24 months with credit for 46 days served on each; VOP on dealing in stolen property, probation revoked, 24 months with credit for 104 days served, served concurrently. Must pay civil judgment and $926.65 restitution.

  • Sheriff’s reports & Most Wanted for July 7

    The Levy County Sheriff’s Office reports the following arrests:
    n June 30, Reginald Ventrell Adams, 48, Chiefland, cause bodily harm, obstruction w/o violence, battery, possession. Bond $30,000.
    n June 30, Carl Appling, 45, Williston, DWLSR.
    n June 28, Mandy Raye Ashley, 31, Williston, unoccupied structure, petit theft-12 counts, altering public record-11 counts, altered instrument-13 counts, uttering false instrument, misrepresenting self-11 counts. Bond $380,000.

  • Two sentenced in home invasion

    Two of the three men charged in the armed home invasion of a residence on County Road 335 — Northeast 75th Street — outside Williston in February have been sentenced while a third will be sentenced on July 6.

  • Sheriff's Report & Most Wanted for June 23

    The Levy County Sheriff’s Office reports the follow arrests:
    n June 17, Jonathan Maurice Allen, 23, Chiefland, DWLSR knowingly.
    n June 18, James Devon Baker, 45, Morriston, domestic battery.
    n June 19, Stephen Michael Baker, 19, Inglis, assault with a deadly missile.
    n June 14, James Terah Barker, 27, Bronson, domestic battery and felony battery by strangulation. Bond $25,000.
    n June 19, Roger Leo Bergeron, 46, Inglis, domestic battery. Bond $2,000.

  • Copper thief sentenced to 5 years

    James Blundy Jr., 42, of Williston was sentenced to five years in prison on June 15 in connection with the theft of copper from a rotation sprayer at Stevens Farms.
    Blundy was one of three men arrested in connection with the theft on April 8. Blundy was charged with dealing in stolen property and grand theft. He is also responsible, along with two other men, to pay $30,000 restitution.

  • Facebook photos result in arrest

    Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) investigators arrested a Tampa man June 17 after receiving a complaint about photos that had been posted on Facebook.
    The complaint said that a deer and alligator had been freshly killed and that the suspected hunter, Kyle Edwards, 21, was also in the photos.
    The animals allegedly were killed near Bronson in Levy County on private property north of Otter Creek.

  • Motorcyclist dies in U.S. 19 crash

    An Old Town man was killed after his motorcycle was rear-ended and pushed for 300 feet on U.S. Highway 19 south of Chiefland on Monday at 8 p.m., according to a Florida Highway Patrol report.
    Marvin Hancock, 58, was pronounced dead at 11:22 p.m.
