  • Sheriff's Report & Most Wanted for July 28

    The Levy County Sheriff’s Office reports the following arrests:
    n July 20, Terry Lee Arnold, 38, Inglis, DWLSR. Bond $1,000.
    n July 28, Debbie Lynn Barfield, 57, Williston, DWLSR. Bond $1,000.
    n July 22, Rebecca Ann Blackerby, 24, Bronson, DWLSR. Bond $500.
    n July 23, Carl Thomas Butler, 38, Old Town, driving on permanently revoked driver’s license, out of county warrant. Bond $3,350.
    n July 18, Julio Callazo, 31, Inglis, domestic battery by strangulation. Bond $50,000.

  • Sexual offenders register addresses

       Two sexual predators and one sexual offender — Kevin Michael Schroeder, 48; Brian Michael Hodge, 30,  and Jose Saul Bruno, 42 — have each registered a new address with the Levy County Sheriff's Office.

  • Chiefland man arrested on sales tax charge

    Auto body repair shop owner James Ballengee, 46, of Chiefland is free on $5,000 bond after being arrested on a charge of taking more than $78,000 in state sales taxes from his customers and not passing it on to the state, according to the Levy County Sheriff's Office.

  • Blair trial delayed again

    The federal trial of former Levy County economic development director Pamela Williams Blair, indicted in one of a series of high-profile public corruption cases, has been postponed again from Aug. 1 to Oct. 17.
    The trial on a November 2008 indictment on one charge of lying to the FBI was originally set for early 2009, but has been delayed a number of times for various reasons. Blair has denied the charge.

    The Levy County Sheriff’s Office reports the following arrests:
    n July 14, James Gordon Ballengee, 46, Chiefland, failure to remit sales tax, refusal to pay or file return. Bond $5,000.
    n July 15, William Douglas Birchfield, 54, Williston, possession of ammo by a convicted Florida felon. Bond $75,000.
    n July 13, Terry Leon Byrd, 48, Immokalee, DWLSR. Bond $500.

  • Sheriff's Report & Most Wanted for July 14

    The Levy County Sheriff’s Office reports the following arrests:
    n July 9, Nicholas Lee Bailey, 21, Bronson, schedule 1, II or III drugs. Bond $15,000.
    n July 6, Melissa Ann Bell, 29, Springhill, possession of cocaine, DWLS, false ID five to LEO, abuse without great harm. Bond $36,000.
    n July 8, Linda Mae Collins, 50, Chiefland. Bond $1,000.
    n July 6, Dwayne Wesley Deedrick, 50, Bronson, second offense,  deadly weapon without intent to kill, obstruction w/o violence. Bond $110,000.

  • Teen enters plea in mud bog death

    A 15-year-old New Port Richey teen pleaded not guilty to manslaughter charges in the death of a 24-year-old Citrus County man at a Levy County mud bog.
    Chris Sutherlin Jr., who is on home detention, did not appear in court, but instead entered a written plea on Friday at an arraignment before Levy County Judge James "Tim" Browning. Sutherlin Jr. is charged with manslaughter in the stabbing of Roderic "Rod" Sparks at Horse Hole Mud Bog near Inglis on May 28.

  • Gunman gets lighter sentence in home invasion

    The last man to be sentenced in the armed home invasion of a residence outside Williston in February was given a total of 10 years time as arranged with the state attorney's office.
    Hillary Henderson, 20, of Chiefland, who pleaded guilty to a charge of armed home invasion and being a convicted felon in possession of a gun, was given seven years in prison on the first charge to be served after serving a minimum 3 years on the gun charge.

  • Court Dispositions

       The following persons were sentenced, found not guilty or the case nolle pros — dropped — in the Criminal Division of the 8th Circuit Court in Levy County. The information is taken from public records. VOP means violation of probation.
    n Tonya Boyatt, fraud and grand theft, 24 months with credit for 46 days served on each; VOP on dealing in stolen property, probation revoked, 24 months with credit for 104 days served, served concurrently. Must pay civil judgment and $926.65 restitution.

    The Levy County Sheriff’s Office reports the following arrests:
    n June 30, Reginald Ventrell Adams, 48, Chiefland, cause bodily harm, obstruction w/o violence, battery, possession. Bond $30,000.
    n June 30, Carl Appling, 45, Williston, DWLSR.
    n June 28, Mandy Raye Ashley, 31, Williston, unoccupied structure, petit theft-12 counts, altering public record-11 counts, altered instrument-13 counts, uttering false instrument, misrepresenting self-11 counts. Bond $380,000.
