  • FDLE: Amy Andrews holds two driver licenses

    TALLAHASSEE - Amy Andrews of Tennessee will no longer be voting in Chiefland city elections unless she actually moves here, because Eighth Judicial Circuit State Attorney Bill Cervone made her correct an incorrect voter registration, according to records.

    Andrews was among 11 people investigated by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement for voter fraud. Her voter registration showed her residence to be an office at 13 S.E. First Ave., Chiefland, according to FDLE records.

  • Sheriff's Reports

    The following people were arrested recently by the Levy County Sheriff's Office. All defendants are presumed innocent until proved guilty in court.

    * Elizabeth Robertson, 36, of Florida City was arrested Jan. 30 for three counts of possession of cocaine, three counts of sale of cocaine within 1,000 feet of a school and violation of probation. No bond.

    * Jeffrey Phillip Light, 31, of Archer was arrested Jan. 31 for two counts of lewd and lascivious acts on a specific minor. Bond $50,000.

  • Felony convictions noted

    BRONSON - The following people were convicted of felonies in Levy County in January, according to court records.

    * Belinda Chavez Barraza, 21, of Chiefland, sale of cocaine and possession of cocaine.

    * Cynthia Glover Brown, 50, of Trenton, possession of cocaine.

  • Sheriff's Reports

    People arrested by officers with the Levy County Sheriff's Office recently included the following individuals. Any person charge with a crime is presumed innocent until a court rules he or she is guilty.

    * Matthew Goins, 16, of Chiefland was arrested Jan. 22 on two counts of burglary, one count of larceny and one count of petit theft. A juvenile who is charged with a felony in Florida can have his or her name published in the newspaper. Bond $90,000.

  • Barron votes against raising minimum starting salary for cops

    Chiefland Vice Mayor Teresa Barron wants everyone to know that she is not against the Chiefland Police Department.

    She said this after being the lone dissenter on Jan. 14 against a motion to increase the minimum starting salary for new CPD officers.

    CPD Chief Robert Douglas said he knows she is for the police officers, because she brought them delicious mullet dip as part of a Christmas meal.

    At the meeting on Jan. 14, Douglas asked for officers Matt Hooper's and Al Horne's annual salaries to be increased to $27,993.54.

  • Shooting incidents result in arrests

    BRONSON - Some shooting incidents resulted in arrests by the Levy County Sheriff's Office this week.

    An 18-year-old Williston man was arrested Dec. 31 for discharging a firearm in public and felonious criminal mischief.

    Michael W. Simpson admitted shooting approximately eight road signs when he was caught at about 3:30 that morning, according to records.

    BRONSON - A 39-year-old Williston man was arrested for felonious child abuse on Dec. 22.

    The victim and witness said Terence Bartges had been drinking most of the night before the deputy arrived at about 11:25 p.m., according to records.

  • Levy deputies stop fugitive with spike sticks

    BRONSON – Levy County Sheriff's Office deputies ended a 31-minute pursuit that started in Marion County on Dec. 21 just before 10 p.m., LCSO Lt. Evan Sullivan said.

    Larry Ray Griffis, 39 was arrested by the Marion County Sheriff's Office for aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer, felony fleeing and attempting to elude a police officer, possession of cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia, criminal mischief and driving while license suspended or revoked, Sullivan said.

  • Purse-snatcher hurts Chiefland woman

    A 55-year-old Chiefland woman was knocked to the ground and suffered injuries after a purse-snatcher pushed her down just before 10 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 15, Chiefland Police Officer Nick Viaggio said.

    CPD Officer Alton Horne and Viaggio responded to Huddle House, where the victim went immediately after the attack. The victim had just exited the Dollar General Store at 1302 N. Young Blvd. (U.S. Highway 19) when the attacker came from behind bushes on the south side of the property, Viaggio said.

  • Sheriff Reports

    A 50-year-old Morriston man was arrested for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon on Dec. 18 after he allegedly pointed a pistol at a victim, according to Levy County Sheriff's Office records.

    Jorge L. Sanchez had been arguing with the victim. Sanchez pointed the gun at the victim, who defended himself and took the gun away from the attacker, according to records.

    The victim escaped with the weapon, which was retrieved by the LCSO, according to records.

    Bond was set for Sanchez at $10,000.
