  • Hunt to head new sheriff's unit

    Levy County Sheriff's Lt. Shawn Hunt has been named to the first Agriculture/Marine Unit in the department.
    Citizens have never had a full time ag/marine Investigator to work with farmers, timber business owners and clam farms in Cedar Key.  The duties will consist of investigating any Ag-related crimes, educating the farmers by giving crime prevention tips and community policing

  • Sheriff names Ott watch commander

    Levy County Sheriff's Sgt. Perry Ott has been promoted to lieutenant and watch commander in the Uniform Patrol Division.  His duties are to supervise the Alpha Company and assist in executive decisions within the agency.
    Ott began his career with the Levy County Sheriff's Office in 1989.  He is a native Floridian and lives in the Chiefland area.  During Ott's tenure, he has worked in the Uniform Patrol Division.

    n Hants Q. Harrelson, burglary  and three counts of larceny between $300-$5,000, 1 year 7 days with credit for 106 days served and 36 months probation on each; burglary and larceny between $300-$5,000, nolle pros. Must pay civil judgment and $1,800 restitution.
    n Courtney Harvey, burglary, nolle pros; aggravated battery, 42 months with credit for 108 days served. Must pay civil judgment and jail fund.

    n Feb. 13, Eugene Jehue Cannon, 78, Inglis, FTA. Bond $2,000.
    n Feb. 15, Thomas Joseph Carlisle Jr., 19, Bronson, violation of injunction, FTA. Bond $10,000.
    n Feb. 15, John Christopher Champion, 22, Chiefland, robbery with weapon, aggravated battery on a person with a deadly weapon. Bond $400,000.
    n Feb. 13, Stanley Charles Collins, 38, Northwest Reform, Ala., DWLS habitual, out of county warrant. Bond $5,000.

  • Sex predator registers address in Cedar Key

    Jeffrey Earl. Lashley, 52, convicted of sexual battery in 2004 and classified a "sexual predator," has registered his address in Cedar Key, according to a Levy County Sheriff's Office press release.
