• FHP to see out the year at safety checpoint in Gainesville

    The Florida Highway Patrol will conduct a Comprehensive Roadside Safety Checkpoint (CRSC) on Tuesday, Dec. 31, starting at 10 p.m. at the 5300 Block of State Road 222 (Northeast 39th Avenue) and will encompass both the east and westbound lanes.

    This is a continuing enforcement program to identify persons who are operating a motor vehicle with defective equipment, without a valid driver's license, without a proper vehicle registration, proper insurance or while under the influence of alcohol or other drugs.

    The objectives of these checkpoints are:

     On Dec. 9, Willie James Flanders Jr. registered as a Sexual Predator with the Levy County Sheriff’s Office. By Florida law Flanders is required to notify law enforcement whenever he changes addresses.

  • Man shot at home in Bronson

    A man shot at his University Oaks home on Friday evening was airlifted to Shands Hospital for treatment according to a Levy County Sheriff's Office spokesman.

  • Help needed to identify burglary suspect

    The Levy County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's help in identifying a suspect caught on camera during a break-in at the Verizon phone store on U.S. Highway 19 North.

    The break-in occurred in the early morning hours of Monday, Dec. 16. The suspect took cell phones and electronics. The staff discovered the break-in when they reported to work on Monday.

  • Public Safety to get wellness program

    Requests for approval to apply and accept federal and state grants are pretty common at Levy County Commission meetings, but one at the Dec. 3 meeting sparked some questions from one commissioner because it calls for the purchase of gym equipment. 

  • DPS tests firefighter applicants

    The Levy County Department of Public Safety conducted testing of part-time firefighter applicants on Saturday, Nov. 23, at the Levy County Public Safety Complex in Bronson.

    This testing process consisted of a 50-question written test and a series of practical evaluations. The practical portion consisted of ladder raise, tool carry, search and rescue, victim drag and hose line operation skills. 

  • Drive safe this holdiday season

    Aggressive driving is dangerous driving. This is especially true when drivers of cars and large trucks engage in aggressive driving behavior around each other. To help combat the hazard this presents to motorists on the road, the Florida Highway Patrol began a two-week enforcement campaign aimed at preventing aggressive driving behavior on Friday. The Ticketing Aggressive Cars and Trucks (TACT) campaign runs through December 5 and is intended to raise awareness about the dangers of being too aggressive on roadways, especially when a large truck is involved.

  • Williston man arrested in theft of $2,900

    A man living in a Williston group home on Northeast 35th Street was charged recently with 13 counts of criminal use of personal information after, according to police, he used a bank card to take money from another man who lives at the same address.
