• Sexual predator registers in Levy County

    On July 9, John Wayne Hudson registered as a Sexual Predator with the Levy County Sheriff’s Office.

    Hudson was convicted in 2004 in Levy County for sexual battery by weapon or force. He was released from the Federal Bureau of Prisons in 2014 and registered a change in address to 11950 NE 116 Street, Archer.

    By Florida law Hudson is required to notify law enforcement whenever he changes addresses.

  • Man charged with child molestation

    Brandon Michael McClurg of Williston was arrested by Investigator Scott Stancil in the late afternoon of July 7, after confessing to sexually abusing a 5 year old child.

    The child’s father filed his complaint on June 28 after his child disclosed to him “Dude”, as the child refers to McClurg, had touched her inappropriately.

  • AG, FTC stop credit card interest scam

    TALLAHASSEE – For the second time in two weeks, Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi and the Federal Trade Commission have filed a federal court lawsuit to protect consumers from a credit card interest rate reduction scam. This time, Bondi and the FTC halted a Pinellas County-based group of businesses and individuals from operating a nationwide telemarketing scam that defrauded consumers out of at least $8.5 million.

    The Levy County Sheriff's Office reports the following arrests:

    •July 10, Inshan Allie, 34, Ocala, aggravated assault with deadly weapon W/O intent to kill. No bond.

    •July 12, Tanja Alston, 39, Chiefland, battery.

    •July 11, Matthew John Bennett, 32, Chiefland, Larceny – grand theft 300 less than $5,000, DWLSR and burglary. Bond $45,000.

  • Brinson trial set for December

    A new trial date has been set for Crystal Michelle Brinson, who faces a charge of first-degree murder for a crime dating back to the Christmas season of 2012.

    Brinson, 38, of Brooksville, has been charged in connection with the 2012 death of DeAnna Lee Stires, 18, also of Brooksville.

    Brinson was in Judge Richard Howard’s court Thursday for a status conference. Based on the availability of all parties, Howard set the trial for Dec. 7 with a pre-trial date of Nov. 30.

  • Chiefland man charged with attempted murder

    A Chiefland man has been charged with attempted murder after striking his girlfriend with a car.

    Police responded to the scene at Prairie Oaks Apartments in Chiefland on around 8:40 p.m. June 30 and noticed a woman lying in the roadway.

  • Dixie arrest man wanted in Levy

    A Dixie County deputy stopped a car on June 29 at about 2 p.m. on Northeast Highway 349 for traveling 70 mph in a 60 mph speed zone. During the course of the traffic stop, the deputy noticed that a male passenger appeared to be acting nervously and was holding a black backpack.

    •July 1, Galvester Daniels III, 33, Williston, flee/elude police at high speed, RW/OV, cocaine traffic 28 grams less than 150 KG. Bond $210,000.

    •July 4, Dylan Wayne Davies, 18, Chiefland, marijuana possession not more than 20 grams, possession or use of drug equipment, smuggle contraband/introduce into detention facility. Bond $11,000.

    •June 25, Jason Chism, 41, Williston, no motorcycle endorsement, DWLSR. Bond $500.

    •June 28, Kristi Cooprider, 27, Inglis, VOP, failure to appear. No bond.

    •June 22, Aimee Covey, 26, Trenton, out of county warrant. Bond $756.

  • Chiefland woman charged with child abuse; sexual battery

    After several weeks of investigation, Dixie County sheriff’s investigators arrested a 44-year-old Chiefland resident in connection with a child abuse investigation that began in April of this year.

    According to the complaint, Lisa M. Strat was an acquaintance of the family whose minor children were the alleged victims. During the course of the investigation, interviews along with medical exams were conducted and enough information was learned to obtain a warrant.
